Version 4

From WWR

Jump to: navigation, search

WWR uses the term "version" satirically. New releases of software happen organically. The whole thing is supposed to be an enjoyable hobby, not a stressful job with deadlines. So references to different versions and attempts to document them are tongue-in-cheek.

  • March 15, 2006: Jimbob installs the first WWR wiki. Esther is in Anchorage helping her sister deliver her first baby. Notable in that significant innovations at WWR often occur when Esther leaves for a few days.
  • March 17, 2006: Jim "gets total access to all the WWR databases inside of the wiki software" and starts writing extensions to wiki software. LastFM extension is written. What's playing functionality is added.
  • March 18, 2006: How to prepopulate artists pages is figured out.
  • March 19, 2006: Version 4 announced. Parody extension/tag added.
  • March 20, 2006: Emoticon extension added.
  • March 23, 2006: Artists namespace added to port artist information from existing database.
  • March 23, 2006: First live chat in version 4. EJs join the fun.
  • March 24, 2006: First music requests taken from version 4.

  • March 30, 2006: First house concert with designated chat room.
  • April 3, 2006: Many reports and lists added in the last few days, in addition to favorites on User pages.
  • April 3, 2006: Underwear, an interface to share custom CSS designs, is created.
  • April 4, 2006: Feature to choose chat font color, style and size added.
  • April 5, 2006: First day of version 4 chat only.
  • April 5, 2006: First vandalism appears on a page. "I guess we've arrived..." says Jimbob.
  • May 12, 2006: Old pMachine blogs imported to wiki format. Old blogs taken offline (redirect to blog). Jimbob officially stops using 'blogging software' in favor of more open-ended blogging via the wiki.
  • May 15, 2006: Audio magazine download, searching and interface added to Version 4.
  • May 17, 2006: Donation interface converted to Version 4.
  • May 19, 2006: Emoticon cheat sheet added to Version 4
  • May 19, 2006: With all "old site" pages and features shut down, conversion to Version 4 is completed.
  • June 1, 2006: The EJs are 'temporarily laid off' from their duties as music programmers. Listeners are, for the first time, given the ability to make restricted "music block" requests up to 15 minutes long. All the music being played today is being provided by listeners. The EJs look somewhat forlorn. (Note that Esther was in Kerrville, Texas when this big change happened. Most big changes happen while she's away.)
  • June 3, 2006: Based on the success of the musical sound from listener requested blocks, the EJs have been re-programmed to only provide music when listeners have not done so. This is a significant move forward in the area of letting listeners run both this site and the music they are hearing.
  • June 12, 2006: Jimbob switched into Wheat Palace resoration mode and set WWR development aside temporarily.
  • Oct. 22, 2006: User blog feature added. (Note: Esther was in Anchorage for the weekend.) Featured artist and audio magazines also restored the the past few days.
