Adopt-a-user

Thanks, Kelli, for your interest in Adopt-a-user. I hoped you'd come on board. In these past few months your knowledge of WWR wiki has without a doubt eclipsed mine. I'm very happy about that. Right from the start with WWR wiki my favorite part has been seeing people learn and it still is. sparx (talk) 19:54, May 9, 2008 (AKDT)

Thanks for the compliment, but I doubt that my knowledge has surpassed yours. I'm getting bolder though.  :-) It is great to watch people learn the WWR wiki! Kelli (talk) 20:00, May 9, 2008 (AKDT)

Thanks, Atuu, for your interest in the Adopt-a-user thing. With the support of folks like you it's sure to fly. sparx (talk) 19:49, May 9, 2008 (AKDT)

Aww shucks sparx! ::blush I am just trying to emulate the Wheathead that selflessly led me by the hand when I first showed up here...I believe the name was sparx! ::;) Atuuschaaw (talk) 20:04, May 9, 2008 (AKDT)

Wirth stories behind the songs

Glad I could throw some light on the songs for you Sparx. I have the great pleasure of knowing George and being able to hear him play on a regular basis. I am thrilled to be able to give him as much exposure as possible. Pyrite (talk)

Instrumental lyrics search?

I've been removing that, too, when I come across it on instrumental tunes. sparx (talk) 14:05, May 11, 2008 (AKDT)

Another thought... I wonder if we could talk Mr. Monkey's Happy-go-Lucky bots into removing that lyrics thing from all songs labeled instrumental? sparx (talk) 14:12, May 11, 2008 (AKDT)
Sounds like a great idea. I guess it depends on how much we trust people to tag things correctly. Who would be the best person to ask about the accuracy of the tags?? DogNut (talk) 14:20, May 11, 2008 (AKDT)
I gotta hope people are tagging accurately. Flying Trout knows music real well and he got into doing a lot of tagging with SuperTagger before we went with the template tagging process. Let's ask Trout! I've not been paying close attention to tagging songs lately... Who else has been tagging? sparx (talk) 16:25, May 11, 2008 (AKDT)
I'm moving the discussion to Category instrumental talk, so respond there please. sparx (talk) 16:35, May 11, 2008 (AKDT)

Tom Doughty

Hey Sparkit, no problem. I saw a blank page, so i just added it in. Glad that we have something just for WWR from him. Hey, did you notice that his photo isn't coming up in the bio? Looks like a file naming issue, but I remember Jim said/wrote something about the bots coming around to implement the new naming conventions. Ryan (talk) 06:07, May 12, 2008 (AKDT)

Cool! I fixed up the image thing. The one we had on file for him wasn't him anyhow. However, I didn't notice at the time that it's the same photo we're using for the "what's playing" stuff. sparx (talk) 16:40, May 13, 2008 (AKDT)

Barley Fruit Muffins

Sparkity, I'm munching on some of the most delicious muffins I just made and wanted to share the recipe (and virtual muffin) with you, as you said you like barley too. I started eating it because it's suppose to lower cholestroal, but with the butter and jam I put on these Image:Lol.gif it's probably breaking even, we can only hope. It's from the same barely site I gave you the other day. [1] I think it's a pretty good site. I realized too, that the barley salad could taste really yummy with salmon in there instead of the tuna. ReWoven (talk) 17:09, May 12, 2008 (AKDT)

Thanks, ReWoven! Those sound yummy, too. I might try some this weekend with craisins and walnuts if the local natural foods store has barley flour. I think they do. That fish/barley salad does sound more appealing with salmon! sparx (talk) 16:44, May 13, 2008 (AKDT)

Thanks Sparkit

Hi, Mike Strasser here. I see that you requested hearing more of my songs I appreciate it. I would recommend that you may wanna be more specific and mention the CD "rash behaviors" as I have 2 CDs there (here?)at WWR and the recent one, rash behaviors, is the one you've heard recently

Again, thanks for the interest

—Preceding unsigned comment added by Mstras (talkcontribs) Please sign comments with four tildes ~~~~

You're most welcome, Mike. I've heard a few of your tunes, liked what I heard and will be requesting more to listen to here. Thanks for allowing us to listen to you on WWR! sparx (talk) 19:37, May 13, 2008 (AKDT)

Sparks for Sparx

Hi Sparx! I see that you finally got to listen to Will Ray's "Sparks" and actually liked it! While I'm sure it will be difficult to supplant ZZ Top's "Master of Sparks" as your all-time favorite "sparks" song, it certainly is (as Marlon Brando would say) "a contenda!" I also thought you might like to take a listen to my latest "ear worm" -- Tom Wait's Road to Peace. Tom is an acquired taste, but something tells me that you'll enjoy this song, even if you're not a big Tom Waits fan. By the way, I've noticed from the song ratings that we have somewhat similar tastes in music. Please let me know what you think! Kimchifox (talk) 19:38, May 14, 2008 (AKDT)

There you go again getting me in trouble! Image:Newmona.gif I decided to watch the video at work, but the Flash plug-in wasn't installed. So, I tried to install it, but kept getting some error message about insufficient permission. So, armed with an admin password I set out to correct that by opening up permissions on the folders involved. That wasn't successful and I abandoned the notion.
However, after fiddling with permissions and running the latest OS10 updates, I couldn't launch any of my Adobe products! All my work is done with Adobe products. The error message said uninstall and reinstall was required. Though that would be a cake walk, the disks are 50 miles away in our Chelan office. And this was after making another big mistake this week. Ugh!
We're not dead in the water though. I have the software on my laptop which I'll lug in tomorrow to get the work done.
Here's the really silly part — I have that Tom Waits tune already. I rather like ol' Tom. But I wanted to watch the video.
I rather like the new "Sparks" tune, but you're right it won't supplant "Master of Sparks."

Need Help With Page Development

Hi Sparx

Billybones here. I am trying to figure out how to get my favourites ie David Francey into my page that I am creating. Would appreciate some help. Billybones (talk) 10:24, May 15, 2008 (AKDT)

Hi Sparx!

I would like to create list of favorites (music) like you have on your page. Billybones (talk) 10:27, May 15, 2008 (AKDT)

I figured it out

Hi Sparx!

I figured it out! Billybones (talk) 10:57, May 15, 2008 (AKDT)

Alrighty! Your User page is really coming along. Image:Thumbsup.gif sparx (talk) 17:04, May 15, 2008 (AKDT)

Recipes and The Council

So Sparx, what recipe did you try? Whatever you chose, I hope it worked out well for you. Also, do you know if the Council of Elders are appointed by Jimbob or volunteers? If the latter, I wouldn't mind volunteering. Please let me know! Also, sad news regarding Atuu. I sure hope he gets well soon! Kimchifox (talk) 09:52, May 19, 2008 (AKDT)

I didn't get as far as trying one of the recipes yet. Already had stuff to make stir fried chicken, veggies and rice that day. I love cedar planked salmon! But I think I'm gonna try the Green Lightning Shrimp first.
Jim has asked people to serve as volunteers on the Council of Elders (It's down in the Additional Notes section). I don't know who all has accepted besides myself. As I recall he intends to do the selecting. However, do let him know that you are interested in voluntering.
I was saddened by news of Atuu's illness. I hope recovery goes easy for him.

What's playing

Love your changes to What's playing. Image:Thumbsup.gif And I might steal your listener status template idea. Cool. Image:Smile.gif Kelli (talk) 02:47, May 21, 2008 (AKDT)

Thanks, Kelli! I've got some ideas for a fancier listener status thingie. I might play with it tonight. sparx (talk) 18:28, May 22, 2008 (AKDT)

Sparkit, I am always amazed at your great designs! Though this one time, my tired old eyes are having a real hard time reading the "small" print and images on 'What's Playing' I think Randy, ie Blue Ridge tried that once but he too had to change the size for those of us old folks that do not have 30" monitors. :( Jac (talk) 16:22, May 22, 2008 (AKDT)

Thanks. I enjoy designing within the wiki/WWR parameters. It offers a surprising variety.
When I was fiddling with "What's playing" I thought about making it customizable like we've done with Artists' pages. I think Jim and I are on the same wavelength about it. See below.
In the meantime, if you are using Firefox you can increase the text size either as a preference or press CTRL and + (CMD and + on Mac) at the same time. I don't know how to do it in other browsers, but I bet all the Mozilla browsers use the same keyboard shortcut.
Personally, I think we've got too much stuff on that page for any of it to be very readable. That's just my taste in design though. I'm thinking of moving that "featured" dealie to the Open Mic page. Though I may sit tight till we can bring on layout options for the page.
sparx (talk) 18:28, May 22, 2008 (AKDT)

I'm not up on the latest, but FWIW, gonna be time for multi-designs for What's Playing again. I'll probably do my own and stick it as a link at the bottom when I'm back and swinging again. (I want to squeeze out a bunch of the search stuff, put more stuff on the top REFRESH line, consolidate the top banner, and generally obliterate white space so more info displays "above the fold" on my screen.) Maybe you've already done it, I dunno. I'm at a hotel with sketchy wireless but also haven't wanted to risk an emotional upset potentially triggered by events here. IOW, if this comment makes no sense, as always, go running through the streets screaming "THE COMMMENT MAKES NO SENSE, THE COMMENT MAKES NO SENSE!" Image:Smile.gif I liked your "can't go postal" summary of life. Jimbob (talk) 17:31, May 22, 2008 (AKDT)

Huh? Whatchu talking about? Shall I load 'em up? Image:Blastemcat.gif
Wait, who's gonna get upset? You or me? Or someone else?
As I just told Jac, I see the potential/need for making options for this page. Whenever you get a round tuit.
"What's playing" seems like a page that should have just a bit of info, not all of it. That's why we have links to the Artists' page. (Oops, preaching to the choir again.)
Ya, I won't go postal at work, but it really has potential as a dark comedy. Let's see... today, I'm still explaining to the sales reps, who are selling ads for the websites, the difference between a web page and a PDF. Ummm... and that in a 125x125 pixel ad we can only use about 10 words. Oh, and the high school emailed me 60 mug shots of graduating seniors in one email. Thankfully, they were lo-res (too lo-res for print, but that's a different issue) and didn't plug up my low capacity email account. Yesterday, due to the low capacity on our local server and daily accounting database backups we were down to 5 MB (you read that right - 5 MB) on the server. And that's just some of the techie stuff!
Keep smilin' Image:0911.gif sparx (talk) 18:28, May 22, 2008 (AKDT)

Without glasses

Sparks, I love the "without glasses" template or underwear or whatever you call it Image:Spinhead.gif Image:Applause.jpg Cater (talk) 06:04, May 23, 2008 (AKDT)

Thanks, Cate! Image:349.gif It's not Underwear, but you gave me a great idea for another WWR Underwear! I've now made one called "Bloomers" that makes text larger throughtout the WWR wiki. Unfortunately, it's not showing up in the pull-down menu so's folks can try it on. I'll have to charm Jimbobo into fixing that. The Without glasses thing just has bigger text on that page. sparx (talk) 19:02, May 23, 2008 (AKDT)

Help with Currently Playing mini

Thanks for these templates!!! I put the mini on my user page and it shows "System Status" in red. Why is that when it is the same one as in "Open mic" which doesn't show the status?? Thanks!!!!!!!!! Scobey (talk) 09:50, May 25, 2008 (AKDT)

You're most welcome, Scobey! It was doing the same on my user page, and just my user page. I even stripped my user page down to just the {{Systemstatus}} template and it did the same thing. I suspect is a conflict with something that automagically appears on that page - all that stuff at the bottom. So, I took the darn thing out of the "mini" template. I guess if we hear Jim on the air, we'll know he's on-air. :) sparx (talk) 16:29, May 25, 2008 (AKDT)

bug reports

Don't know what happened but it looks like a lot of changes were lost after your last edit. I did add your comment back in, so I think it's OK now. Kelli (talk) 21:14, May 30, 2008 (AKDT)

Thanks, Kelli! I bet I edited an older version of the page and completely ignored the warning that I was doing so. It's been a looooooonnnnnnnng week! sparx (talk) 21:25, May 30, 2008 (AKDT)

Pssstttt...

(Just sayin' ... on Today's topic I think the standard is add new comments at the top. I keep missing yours. We can hash it all out later if it's a bad standard... Image:Hello.gif) Jim (talk) 14:58, June 1, 2008 (AKDT)

Thanks. I'll try to remember that. :) sparx (talk) 16:42, June 1, 2008 (AKDT)

Broken

Dedication: Stuff sparx would request over and over and over if she could. (http://www.wholewheatradio.org/wiki/index.php/5_sparx">5 sparx) #2 of 4 in a 19 mins set.

I couldn't find the emoticons to fix this. Scobey (talk) 13:48, June 3, 2008 (AKDT)

The graphic I put on that page and the one I want to use there shows on the page for me? Are you seeing five sets of sparkling eyes when you look at the page? sparx (talk) 16:36, June 3, 2008 (AKDT)

Gadgets

Let me know if you have any trouble with Gadgets on Special:Preferences --- I gutted your/our old navpop.js and got the latest from Wikipedia and tweaked so it works much better now. Turn it on via Gadgets then go to Recent Changes and do some hovering. You should even see thumbnail images!!!! Just notifying you cuz you were the original importer and setter upper. Thanks. Image:Kiss2.gif Jim (talk) 16:41, June 3, 2008 (AKDT)

Thanks for the heads-up. I wondered WTF was going on. The new one is working fine for me and I like the improvements. Navpop makes wikiing sooooooo much easier. Image:Kiss2.gif sparx (talk) 17:07, June 3, 2008 (AKDT)

Screenshots

Remember that thing you wanted to take screenshots of? It's open. You 'n me only. Let me know when you're done with it. No rush since it's just ours but I don't wanna leave it hanging out there. May be doing more development in that area today. Have fun and thanks! Jim (talk) 09:04, June 7, 2008 (AKDT)

Image:Gratefulemoticon.gif Thanks, Jim! I done the deed. Close 'er back up. sparx (talk) 12:35, June 7, 2008 (AKDT)

Today's Topic

Er, I think I should wait until you're done splitting all the Today's Topic archives etc. before testing the bot code to create "Today's Topic - YYYY-MM-DD". I was going to have it create 7 of them at a shot on Saturday night, just like the current "Chat" pages. But we'll just get confused and step on each other's toes if we're actively working on it. So let me know when you're done splitting 'em out and I'll get to work on the auto-code to generate them. Thanks! Jim (talk) 14:17, June 7, 2008 (AKDT)

You must have clicked the Save button at the same time as I clicked the Save button on the last one! I didn't move today's yet. Wait... I'll do that right now. We can shitcan the redirect later. So, all ready, skipper. Mr. Monkey's Magical Mystical Minions can take over he job now. I expect they can figure out the naming convention I used. And if they don't like it, they can figure out another one and move all the pages. Image:Kiss.gif sparx (talk) 14:29, June 7, 2008 (AKDT)
I'm done for now. The Template:Header-Today's topic is the only thing put at the top of new pages. Layout is probably ugly. Feel free to modify any of it. Thanks for making it all happen! Jim (talk) 16:22, June 7, 2008 (AKDT)

False Positives

Sorry about the false IP spoof messages. You should be exempted now. It's not used to seeing someone of your activity with an IP such as yours. Once again, you are living on the edge of the silly bell curve... Image:Smile.gif Jim (talk/contribs) 19:30, June 13, 2008 (AKDT)

Topic of the Day

Sparx, I am tagging you for the "topic of the day" tomorrow for Saturday's topic. Is that going to work out for you ? OldGowl (talk/contribs) 17:47, June 19, 2008 (AKDT)

That'll be fine. Thanks for the heads-up. sparx (talk/contribs) 18:03, June 19, 2008 (AKDT)

Pilots

Hi Cub! I was about to make a "WWR Pilots" category and fix up the templates so that pilot users would show in that category. To me the WWR pilots and flying are still a part of the WWR culture. What's your feeling about it? sparx (talk/contribs) 18:28, June 19, 2008 (AKDT) Retrieved from "http://www.wholewheatradio.org/wiki/index.php/User_talk:Cub_Driver"

I agree it WAS a part of the culture, but I don't feel that it is any longer. Jim's vision is and has been to make this site about music; we (the users) made pilots/flying part of the culture. Out of respect for Jim's vision, I have been careful not to interject anything about flying lately as it doesn't relate to his goals. I deleted the "bush pilot" template today since I was the only memeber. I left the other pilot pages/stuff there for others to do as they wish but I don't think flying has a home here any longer. Just my 2 cents. Thanks for thinking of us though. Cub Driver 18:51, June 19, 2008 (AKDT)

Today's Topic

Sorry I did not answer right away, I was away fishing. Got 1 king, 1 red and 2 silvers, salmon that is! Yumm. I do not have a problem picking a topic, are there rules or quidelines?

Missjane

Where the heck are you?! I'm so jealous! I love salmon fishing and eating.
We've been playing it loose with Today's Topic, so it's a wide open field. Someone else asked a question for that day, but it doesn't look like anyone is on tap for today or tomorrow. So, give it shot if you are so inclined.
Thanks! sparx (talk/contribs) 18:33, June 23, 2008 (AKDT)

Watchlist

Watchlist restored! I figured you might want yours back. Was easier to purge and restore than try to guess who was actually using it. I think a fair number of people, when we first started, had auto-watchlist turned on for pages they edited. Jim (talk/contribs) 19:33, June 24, 2008 (AKDT)

Ballad

It looks like there is a consensus on Ballad, but I thought maybe you'd want to close that discussion. I did go ahead and removed the jazz definition from the page. Kelli (talk/contribs) 09:14, July 7, 2008 (AKDT)

I'm not exactly sure what to do to close it, but I'll give it a shot. Let me know how I do, please. sparx (talk/contribs) 18:10, July 8, 2008 (AKDT)
There are no rules; I've been making it up as I go. I just didn't want to remove it from "current topics" unless you considered it done. Kelli (talk/contribs) 18:16, July 8, 2008 (AKDT)
Image:Hehe.gif making it up as I go is one of my specialties! I wrote a little something on the Ballad talk page, removed the tag talk template, moved it on the discussion page and now I'll review the definition. Thanks! sparx (talk/contribs) 18:25, July 8, 2008 (AKDT)
Image:Hehe.gif I realized that after I typed it. Looks perfect. It was actually a pretty obvious consensus compared to many of the votes. Image:Smile.gif Kelli (talk/contribs) 18:29, July 8, 2008 (AKDT)

Just call me DUMBASS!!! I always found your last name "interesting" and thought that you must be married to someone from Tonga! As I was trying to pronounce your last name unsuccessfully for the umpteenth time, I finally came to the realization that it is pronounced MAKIN' IT UP AS YOU GO!!! Me mucho stupido!!! Enough about my enlightened stupidity . . . Happy Birthday, dear Sparx!!! Umakmihartsing!

Happy Birthday Sparx Chili (talk/contribs) 13:04, September 25, 2008 (AKDT)

Thank all you wonderful people for the birthday wishes! It truly made my day. I know "this is the worst birthday ever" is Jim's shtick, but it happened that way for me this year.
First thing on birthday morning at work, my best friend at work was fired. They didn't tell him why, nor did they tell those of us remaining. So, I guess the bosspeople prefer that we come to our own conclusions. My current theory is that he crossed the sheboss one too many times, and rather than reasonably work out differences, she strikes... well, has the heboss strike. In any case, my shock is wearing off, and a sadness setting in. Sad for everyone involved. And I'm giving myself a few days to decide whether to stay at the job or go.
Finding your sweet birthday wishes on my talk page when I got home brought the long forgotten smile to my face.
Thank you all! sparx (talk/contribs) 16:40, September 27, 2008 (AKDT)

Hey I just read about your birthday events. Hope things work out for your best friend.. You have been plotting and planning for the past year... just keep your eyes and ears open. Sometimes those doors of opportunity don't open until the others close. Hang in there Sparkley Pants !! OldGowl (talk/contribs) 16:52, September 27, 2008 (AKDT)

Birthday? You had a birthday? I missed it? No no no ... say it isn't so! Joe! Talk about blow! Well hell, let's go! You know? To 'n fro. I'll bet your favorite Stooge is Mo. Yo! Check out my toe! It's aglow. And now this Happy Birthday wish is oh oh oh so ... um ... er ... over? Image:Happy_belated_birthday.gif Jim (talk/contribs) 17:22, September 27, 2008 (AKDT)

I tried really hard not to have a birthday this year. Alas, Mr. Monkey's minions just wouldn't let it go.
That glowing toe of yours is really something. I knew you were highly evolved but I guess I didn't know just how much!
