Willie Nelson For President
Hi Sparkit...I just saw your post on J-Walk's blog, and the Willie Nelson for President bumper sticker. Would you believe, I have that EXACT bumper sticker on my truck? I also have this: --Bisbonian 12:59, May 10, 2006 (AKDT)
hehe We could use a photo of that bumper sticker on your truck to go with the pix of the poster. (Sparkit 15:00, May 10, 2006 (AKDT))
- lemme see if I can figure out how to work the camera... --Bisbonian 15:14, May 10, 2006 (AKDT)
- okay, lets see if this worked: --Bisbonian 15:34, May 10, 2006 (AKDT)
- Love the pix! (Sparkit 15:38, May 10, 2006 (AKDT))
- Any plans for it? --Bisbonian 21:07, May 11, 2006 (AKDT)

Response from Stale
I'd like to get those images when ya' get a chance, mainly just the dulcimer/dulcimer, but lump them together if ya want. My only concern is that when I to print it, it'll still be small, forcing me to do the grainy blow-up.Stale 09:03, May 12, 2006 (AKDT)
- You can download the images right from the page.
- Windows: Right click on the image, select "Save file" (or some similarly named option).
- Mac: Click and hold on the image, a menu pops up, select "Save link as...".

Category bug
Just a quick note to say the category bug (where they don't display on pages that have 'heavy duty' $wwr variables) is as annoying to me as it probably is to you. Thanks for keeping the faith and continuing to put in categories even when they don't currently work right. It'll make it even more fun when I do fix it and they start showing up all over the place!
I would have fixed it a long time ago, but it's one of those things that will probably require a completely different approach in the way I am filling in $wwr variables ... and it'll probably take some significant testing and will likely break the site for several hours so I've been reticent to tackle it. But I will! (famous last words)
- Yeah, it does annoy me, but like you say it'll be kick when suddenly all those articles appear in the categories. I've thought about making separate pages for the "songs about xxxxx" that have proliferated in the past few days. There's also a workaround, but I'm reluctant to delve into it. The workaround is to make a redirect page to the target page and on the same line as REDIRECT put the category. (see Sparkit.)
- Also, that navpop page you deleted yesterday was for Navigation popups, which I got to work some time ago. To see how it works copy my
navpop.cssand monobook.js pagesto the same in your own User path.User:Sparkit/navpop.css,User:Sparkit/monobook.js.(They require Jimkloss/popups.jswhich is already in your User path.) Might have to log out and log back in again, in addition to refreshing the browser. (Sparkit 16:51, May 14, 2006 (AKDT))
- UPDATE: navpops stopped working again... hmmmmmmm. (Sparkit 18:26, May 14, 2006 (AKDT))
- UPDATE 2: got it working again by making Sparkit/popups.js, but now we have two popups.js on the site. We only need one. I think the css pointer in popups.js needs to be on the same path, or something like that. (Sparkit 18:50, May 14, 2006 (AKDT))
- Oh right, now I remember what navpop does. I sorta thought it was something we'd played with before but decided to kill it so I look more like 'standard' users for now.
- Concerning the Category bug...I'm giving a cautious report that it's fixed. The unfortunate problem I'm seeing is that pages where it was busted have to be re-saved in order for them to show up in the category list. (Dang-we're not gonna get our kicks automatically huh?) Sorta makes sense as the category gets assigned when article is saved. Sucks. I suppose there is an outside chance the wiki occasionally re-indexes all pages automatically and recalculates categories...naw, on 2nd thought, it'd be a chance in hell. I don't plan to go around saving every page that had a busted Category on it, but will let nature takes it's course and hope most (important) pages get edited once in awhile so the category gets picked up. If you find a place where Categories is busted, please let me know with a link to the page so I can put it through the debug code - thanks. Jimbob 00:50, May 16, 2006 (AKDT)
thanks Many thanks, Jimbob! So far it looks like re-saving is working for the affected files. (Re-saves without changing anything don't show up in recent changes.) The bunch that I've done this morning are working. Even though it's not automatic, it's a kick to see it working again.

It's kind of a tradeoff on 'R'equestable or not. I'm tending to use 'R'equestable because I assume generally when people see a song list they didn't specfically ask for (i.e. on Cats page) they don't care about the song unless they can request it. I could be way wrong and I don't mind a bit if lists are generated of unrequestable songs with the hope that maybe people will check out the song/artist even though they can't request it. Anyway, that's the reasoning behind my generally using the 'R' parameter. Jimbob 22:47, May 17, 2006 (AKDT)
- Thanks! I did understand the 'R'equestable. I just hadn't made up my mind if that's what I wanted on that page or not. (Sparkit 07:34, May 18, 2006 (AKDT))
Keeping track of your stuff
Just a note about a method of working you're already well aware of and I suspect use often. I'm just now starting to do it so maybe it will help me facilitate your work/organizational methods/etc. (and maybe others will see this and do the same):
- Go to your Contributions (that's one reason I added a clear link to it on every User's page cuz I was always forgetting it exists as "Contributions" under toolbox when you're on a user's page)
- Use "diff" on entries you've been changing
- absorb what Categories etc. you're cleaning up so maybe I can do the same when I build a page
Masterful idea BTW on "NOTICES"! As you've seen, I tend to create new stuff and sort of 'throw it out there'. It's a gift that you are so competent not only to see the changes but to also reorganize / reformat them in a clearer and more presentable way. Once again, thank you thank you thank you. This site would only be a shadow of what it currently is without all your incredibly competent work.
P.S. I made a few more people Sysops but didn't tell them (which is probably stupid/rude) because I ran out of steam and just wanted to open the door hoping they'd pick up on it and just use the new power when necessary. I was guessing based on their activity and the appearance of their pages as to whether they would be able to handle it. If there are other people you would like to 'bring into the fold' or methods of getting further high-level involvement, don't hesitate to give Sysop/Bureacrat status to anyone you think can handle it and would use it. Jimbob 13:42, May 18, 2006 (AKDT)
- I wondered why you added those links. I use "contributions" links and a "watchlist" a lot. A handy way to find images one has uploaded, too. (Another way to organize images is to create a category and always add the category tag when uploading. See Category:Sparkit. Something to think about doing when transferring that massive library of WWR images.)
- One of the cool things about the navpops javascript is the ability to see diffs without opening the page.
- Thanks for noticing the "NOTICES". I needed that. (I looked at how chat templates 3, 4 and 5 look in IE/Mac, and it just makes me sick. I hope they don't look that bad in IE/Windows. The entry box in template 2/Main Chat is way off, too.)
- IMO your choices of sysops are wise choices. Thanks for the trust in me of making those choices, too. (Sparkit 15:24, May 18, 2006 (AKDT))
Helps
Looks like you are one of the "wheathead wiki gurus" around here. I'm trying to learn this wiki format and the different commands that work in the text. I dont know if there is a page for this type of information and if so I couldnt find it, specifically for items such as "forced returns, tabs, creating columns, etc... maybe it is rudimentay HTML format language but would be helpful to have a resource for what the different commands might be. I went to the help screen with the bold, italics, etc... maybe some additional expansion to this help. BlueRidge 05:05, May 19, 2006 (AKDT)
- Thanks for asking the questions, BlueRidge! And thanks for the wonderful pages you've started and added to.
- As I said in the chat, documentation is being written as we go. Some places to look for info are:
- About tabs. wiki markup for a tab is a colon (:), multiple colons for additional tabs. Dunno if it'll work in chat because of the WWR markup for emoticons. (OMG, it just dawned on me we have three markup languages -- HTML, wiki and WWR. Plus CSS.)
- Columns need to be done with HTML tables (or CSS, but that complicates matters). There is wiki markup to do tables, but HTML works just as well and knowing HTML tables is more versitile since it can be used on any website.
- Please add to the relevant WWR pages any of the basics we may have glossed over. My talk page is always open for questions, as is The Mill. (Sparkit 07:27, May 19, 2006 (AKDT))
Carter/Grammer
Sounds like you are also interested in Dave & Tracy (and cats). Their "Live... Rocky Mountain" is far superior to the studio versions. But I wasn't sure if you were offering a copy, or requesting one. If you have it, I'd appreciate a "dub". If you would like a copy, I'll get you one if some Wheathead steps forward to give me one. ElmasnoJ 14:35, May 19, 2006 (AKDT)ElmasnoJ
- Thanks, Elmasno! I am wanting it, too. The tracks from that recording that I've heard here on WWR. So, I'll clarify myself on the Wheatcycle page. (Sparkit 14:40, May 19, 2006 (AKDT))
Hi from ElmasnoJ - LuAnna is shipping me a copy, legal even :) I *think* she's been in touch with you, and may send you one too. Let me know if you would like one from me. ~ElmasnoJ
Special RSS feeds
Special:WikiFeeds - it may disappear but thought you might be interested if you're an RSS/Atom feed reader. Not written by me. It will probably disappear or be modified because I believe it's generating a dynamic feed everytime it is hit, which is CPU expensive. It should cache the feed and only update every so often. But it gives a peek into how I'd like to make the site available to RSS readers. Since we have a Blog namespace and Audmag namespace, theoretically feeds to just those areas could be generated as well as feeds for any particular category on the site. Kinda cool! Photos
Sol, your photos are wonderful! I particularly like what you do with black-and-white.
I'm wondering, did you do this one with tripod and timer, Image:JK SS Tracks2.jpg? I'd like to feature it but I'm unsure about attribution. Sparkit 16:34, May 24, 2006 (AKDT)
- Thanks Sparkit! I'm having fun scanning them in when I can find time to. It takes a lot longer than I expected though. The B&W ones require a lot of clean-up. Nope, no tripod. Esther took that. -- Sol 18:44, May 24, 2006 (AKDT)
can you please help
Hi Annette Sparky MakingitupasIgo Sparkit.
Listen, I know we are all suspose to contribute, but if one is not "geeky" or "techy" like myself, this new format can be VERY imtimidating. I see you, Sol and JWalk doing the big-people programming and when I click on link I can't figure things out. It all looks like foreign programmer talk to me. I still have no idea what some of these new things are, and how I am suppose to use it. Hell, I'm not even sure this post will show up where you can see it. I guess what I am trying to say is, as this site progresses and gets "set" is there some way it can be explained more clearly to make it easier for those of us who have no idea how to sign in with four tildes. Thank you so much for listening, Love, Julie
- Hi Julie!
- I remember my trepidation when I first started editing wikipedia pages. I just kept doing it anyhow.
- I'm not sure where to start, but let's try this...
- If you open a page and it's filled with code, ignore it. It'll make more sense later.
- What you did to create this message is the most often used procedure in making pages -- just typing plain text in the edit box. A couple equal signs to make headers. And I see on your user page you've got the bold thing working with three apostrophes.
- The Editing cheat sheet has info about the basics. Don't expect to learn it all at once.
- Everyone learns differently. What works for you? I've thought about breaking down that Editing cheat sheet into even smaller chunks. Or another approach would be for you to describe what you want to create and I could aim you at the appropriate pages.
- Please feel free to leave questions for me on my talk page or on my chat page (it's even easier User:Sparkit/chat). Despite the plethora of geeky stuff on The Mill page, it's meant for basic questions, too. Or do you think a Learn the basics page would be better?
- No one -- NO ONE -- is SUPPOSED to contribute. Contributing in entirely voluntary. Jimbob is frustrated with a particular type of comment, and I don't feel he mean to imply that contributing is necessary.
- About signing. type 4 of those squiggly thing on the key next to the "1" key. They appear as tildes (the name of the character) in the edit box, but as soon as you "Save page" the wiki magically turns them into your username and the date.
- A great way to get going is to play on a sandbox page. I've made you one here, User:Julie/sandbox. Most people ignore what you do on a sandbox pages because they know that they are drafts and practice.
- Again, please keep the questions coming!
- Much love, Sparkit 19:49, May 25, 2006 (AKDT)
thanks
Sparkit,
Thank you for the well thought out and helpful response. I will continue to try to learn and the links you posted are very helpful indeed. I think I just needed to vent my frustrations, and I truly think if I felt like that other Wheatheads might too. I really appreciate your response. Julie 08:42, May 26, 2006 (AKDT)
( hee hee, found the tildes! and they work! ;)
Keywords
Just curious if you can add keywords. I can't, but it is possible I'm doing something wrong. Kelli 09:42, May 26, 2006 (AKDT)
- Hi Kelli! I haven't tried adding keywords yet. I just tuned in and haven't heard a song yet that didn't already have the keywords I'd enter. ::smile Sparkit 10:27, May 26, 2006 (AKDT)
- My screw up. Still had the line that let only me do the testing. It's fixed now. Jimbob 20:48, May 26, 2006 (AKDT)
Wonky Gallery Stuff
Thanks, Sparky! I changed it so there isn't a gallery on QuiltMama's page. -Anagram 11:27, May 26, 2006 (AKDT)
Show Requests
Where it's going ... User:Jimkloss/sandbox/debug I believe only sysops can view the page output. Probably be another day or two before I get it going enough to make public. I'm still scratching my head because it serves as a pretty good way to search the music library (and request onsies from the list that is generated) ... and it appears that requesting a "show" for an hour may fall by the wayside. It'll be more like selecting a group of music, and having it all queued up in a batch. Wouldn't even have to be an hour. Dunno. Still seeing how it works. Have fun. I'm going to bed. Jimbob 15:58, May 28, 2006 (AKDT)
- It's going to be quite versitile! You've been talking for awhile about requestable shows going away and I'm sure that'll be fine. Will the EJs will have regular programs lined up? Two things come to mind as I play with it and you may already have plans for these: 1) a preferred sort order 2) enter a keyword rather than pick from a list.
- Thanks for adding the note about how to add word combos on the keywords page. I was gonna ask about that and hadn't gotten around to it yet. (Sparkit 18:46, May 28, 2006 (AKDT))
WWR Logo
I really admire the WWR logo's you created. I especially like the one that looks like a scrabble board. You do great work!!!
Debry 13:00, June 20, 2006 (AKDT)
- Many thanks!
349 I decided today to animate the Scrabble one.smile I like your logos, too. And I adore your photos! (Sparkit 20:25, June 20, 2006 (AKDT))
- Many thanks!
Custom Tagger
Not sure I'd ever pointed this out to you ... my throw together tagger page ... auto-refreshes on a new song and not formatted very pretty ... will work on it sometime to make it public ... the idea is to have a single page to keep an eye on while listening to assign tags and fill in artist info. Jimbob 11:56, June 25, 2006 (AKDT)
- I think you pointed it out to me when I changed the layout on the keywords page. I've thought of doing something similar, and since it's on my mind, I might piddle with it today. Thanks! (Sparkit 13:13, June 25, 2006 (AKDT))
- See Super Tagger.
smile (Sparkit 07:49, June 26, 2006 (AKDT))
- I am swooning. Seriously. It's beautiful and very functional.
clap2 Jimbob 08:31, June 26, 2006 (AKDT)
- I am swooning. Seriously. It's beautiful and very functional.
- Thanks! Does the "refresh" link need to be at the end? Can it go higher up? Does it need to be inside the form tags? (Sparkit 09:01, June 26, 2006 (AKDT))
- I believe the refresh link can go anywhere on the page and does not need to be within the form. Since it just sets a timer for the javascript to do a reload, it shouldn't matter where it goes and I don't remember any caveats with the way I coded it. But, as always, if you move it and it quits working, it's my fault so just put it back at the bottom. Jimbob 09:07, June 26, 2006 (AKDT)
Mr.Munkey
Did u see how me moved .. it was a fun little guy !! thanks for helping me liz
