New: page deletion requests page
Hi Sol! Little did I expect something like this to be your first talk message, but since you are a sysop and can delete pages...
We now have a Page deletion requests page for users to request deletion of pages, and admins to watch for deletion requests. We'll probably get most of the requests in the chats, but it's an alternative. Also an Category:Admin for that sort of bureaucratic BS.
Recipes
So much for the Wheathead Cookbook, eh? It would have been fun to have a book, but I think the Category:Recipes area is much better. Everyone can contribute on their own, and look -- it even gets published before 2008! I'll add the ones that I have collected when I get some time. There were some good, creative ones. For now, off to work! Sol 06:15, 27 March 2006 (AKST)
- I still think a printed Wheathead Cookbook would be a great gift for all our non-Wheathead friends and relatives. I'd get at least a half dozen. The wiki is going to make even more recipes available for it. It might be easy to put together, too, by using the Printable page option, make a PDF, then using Acrobat Pro to combine docs or place the PDFs into InDesign. or some such. Sparkit 07:31, 27 March 2006 (AKST)
- Anagram left this on my talk page, and I want to share it with you, (Sparkit 06:09, 30 March 2006 (AKST))
- I'd buy a printed Wheathead Cookbook (probably at least 5-6 copies) to send to non-Internet-abled friends/relatives. -Anagram 20:15, 29 March 2006 (AKST)
House Concert Gallery Page
What happened to the photos I posted on the gallery page? What did I do wrong? Sol 20:04, 30 March 2006 (AKST)
- When you reverted it was to a version that didn't include the images you added after my last edit. I fixed it.
- I was only teasing when I said you said you'd program the auto-entry of those. Thank you for doing it, though. I'm going to see about accessing the FTP folder tommorrow and snag them all, or something. Thanks, again. --Sparkit 20:21, 30 March 2006 (AKST)
- Oh, ok. Thanks for fixing it! I obviously have a lot to learn still. Hopefully, you won't have to run around cleaning up after me for too long, but this is quite the learning experience. Uploading the photos to the gallery was sort of practice, but it's a pain in the ass, since you have to download them, then upload them, then copy the URL, then post in the gallery. Ugh! Hopefully Jim will figure out a way to link the FTP/Digicam folder directly to the wiki pictures. That would make life a whole lot easier in the long run. ::oops Forgot to sign. -- Sol 20:28, 30 March 2006 (AKST)
- You're learning fast, Sol. Not to worry about cleaning up after you. Usually, I'll tell folks how to fix things, rather than fix them, so they learn something. Last night, though the house concert gallery was timely and I was bleary-headed, so I went ahead and fixed it.
- It occured to me this morning that it would have been more efficient to add the photos to a category (by entering the category tag in the upload summary) rather than build a gallery. (See Category:Diane Zeigler and Brooks Williams House Concert.) That would have cut out the copy/paste/save routine. Hopefully we can convince Jimbob to make a bot, train the EJs, or something for future house concerts.
- Thanks again, Sparkit 05:22, 31 March 2006 (AKST)
Muddy Sol
Sol, I have a question. I am putting together a bunch of Artists pages, and there are a couple of songs credited to Esther Golton and Muddy Sol. Are you Muddy Sol, or is there someone else?--Bisbonian 14:53, April 22, 2006 (AKDT)No. I wish I had that much musical talent, but I don't. While I can't tell you who all is in Muddy Sol, I can tell you that is a band of Talkeetnans, and somehow involves Jonathan 'Slick' Durr, who not only is a great musician, but is also apparently an archeologist too. Esther could probably tell you much more than I could. -- Sol 16:02, April 22, 2006 (AKDT)
== Telemarketing ==
Look buddy, I'm tired of telling your corporation to stop soliciting me for my address. I'm tired of receiving your marketing materials in my mailbox on a daily basis. I've sent your marketing department my address, so please be on the lookout so that you can remove me from your list. -- Sol 12:36, April 21, 2006 (AKDT)
I got the CD in the mail today and enjoyed going through the pictures. It made me wish that I were up there again instead of going to sit in an office every day... minus the cold weather... and the mosquitoes.
Please tell the Mrs I said "Ribbit." I'll return the favor one of these days. Can you read a data DVD if I send one? -- Sol 19:23, April 29, 2006 (AKDT)
- Glad you got it. As for the data DVD, I don't know. My PC has a DVD drive (read only). It's a Samsung DVD=ROM 616T, according to Device Manager. It plays movies. Will it play a data DVD? Who knows? --Toad 19:31, April 29, 2006 (AKDT)
Question from Stale
I was wonderin' how, if it is O.K. with you and Esther, I could print the dulcimer/wheat logo, and make some stickers, ya' know to spread the word about yer groundshaking woik A WWR. I'd send ya' a stack, and of course there would be no profit-taking on this end.Stale 07:27, May 12, 2006 (AKDT)
- Stale, I can't remember if my original Photoshop image was any larger than that one or not. I'd be glad to send another version to you, but the files are at home. Maybe I can help this weekend. -- Sol 07:55, May 12, 2006 (AKDT)
Photos
Sol, your photos are wonderful! I particularly like what you do with black-and-white.
I'm wondering, did you do this one with tripod and timer, Image:JK SS Tracks2.jpg? I'd like to feature it but I'm unsure about attribution. Sparkit 16:34, May 24, 2006 (AKDT)
- Thanks Sparkit! I'm having fun scanning them in when I can find time to. It takes a lot longer than I expected though. The B&W ones require a lot of clean-up. Nope, no tripod. Esther took that. -- Sol 18:43, May 24, 2006 (AKDT)
Sol, your photographs rule!!! Denali 09:20, May 29, 2006 (AKDT)

Re: package
Come to think of it, a package did arrive from you! I thought it was a CD to add to the library so it went in the large pile of CDs to open... I'm going to have to root through and find it now! Esther 14:40, November 9, 2006 (AKST)
Botty = Booty
To a 50 year old moron, botty = booty. The mis-spelling was for effect. Didn't work did it?
Wheatmail / Gmail
Sol, thanks again for setting up the Wheatmail system. It's a great idea. You mentioned that you forward your wheatmail to your other Gmail account, and then answer the emails from there. Is there a way to make your Wheatmail address show up automatically as the "From" address when you send a response from Gmail to an e-mail you received via the bounce from Wheatmail? Did that make sense? --Toad 20:37, January 10, 2007 (AKST)
- Yep, there is a setting in your primary Gmail account to set it to respond from your Wheatmail account when replying. I have written step-by-step instructions here: Wheatmail#Account_Forwarding. When I get a chance, I will try to do some screenshots. -- Sol® 07:14, January 11, 2007 (AKST)
- Excellent. Thanks, Sol. --Toad 09:35, January 11, 2007 (AKST)
Butt shake
Thanks for the additional butt shake graphics. That's exactly the direction I want to go with that! Thing is, I can't get the damn thing to display properly in chats! I've fiddled with all the table and CSS tags and it's a no-go. Maybe I'll just start from scratch again. --sparkaroni 18:02, January 11, 2007 (AKST)
Aaron
I was concerned when I read about VA Tech - couldn't remember if Aaron decided to go there or not. Found his blog (and funny photo of Weberley on the frontpage) and saw he was at JMU or Duke so was glad. EngMike is at VA Tech and I found him on Flickr (google finds him) but didn't email etc. as didn't feel appropriate. But if you are in contact, let us know he's okay. I think you're probably not, but just in case, thought I'd ask since I saw at least one person asking after him. Jim 15:17, April 16, 2007 (AKDT)
- Thanks. It was good to see him here in the chat. Jim 22:01, April 16, 2007 (AKDT)
Your LastFM station
If you add the following code to your main page, maybe people will play your personal station --- I'm listening and it sounds good right now... don't forget the nowiki tags before and after the object tags...
- I have a lastfm station? Hmmmm... Didn't even know it. I plugged that code into my page, but when I clicked on play, it said "Only available to subscribers." Of course, it didn't give me a place to sign in. Does last.fm have a pay subscription service for listening to stations like that? -- Sol® 08:31, May 1, 2007 (AKDT)
- Huh? No pay or anything. Go to their main page (www.last.fm I think) and make sure you're signed in and a cookie could get set on your machine? Maybe their player wants to make sure it's being used on a machine with a real lastFM user? I did notice they were having trouble last night overall with their server but I just clicked on your player and it's working fine for me. Firewall issue etc.??? Got me. Jim 08:53, May 1, 2007 (AKDT)
- Personal Radio gives you an insight into a user's entire profile. This station's content is built up based upon every song that the user gets scrobbled to their profile, via a plugin or the radio service. Anyone can listen to the personal radio of another user, however, to listen to your own radio station you'll need to subscribe. source
- Looks like that's the problem. eclectic librarian 09:01, May 1, 2007 (AKDT)
clap2 for eclectic! Jim 09:05, May 1, 2007 (AKDT)
- I had not tried to play my own station I guess - I get confused between my own and the WWR group's recommendations (which I could play). Anyhow, I think eclectic pointed out the problem which you just confimed. Not gonna matter anyway cuz just when I start seeing how good LastFM could potentially be for creating useful music mixes, they're gonna get bought and turned into another box store: http://www.theregister.co.uk/2007/05/01/lastfm_pandora_netradio_royalties/

Aaron website
Not sure if you added Aaron's website or someone else but I seem to recall having it show up on the "not valid" website list a few times. So, in case it's you, http://blog.dukepuppy.com/ gives me a page of "your browser is wrong" or something both in Firefox and IE... um, here:
Precondition Failed
We're sorry, but we could not fulfill your request for / on this server.

To resolve this problem, please try the following steps:
* Ensure that your computer is free of viruses, Trojan horses, spyware or any other sort of malicious software. * If you are using any sort of personal firewall or browser privacy software, check to ensure that its settings do not cause your web browser to inadvertently violate any of the rules listed below. * If you are behind a Web proxy or corporate firewall, the proxy must conform to the HTTP specification with respect to proxy servers. Contact your network administrator if the trouble persists, or bypass the proxy and connect directly if possible. * Disable any download accelerators you may be using. They don't speed up your downloads anyway; in most cases, they actually run slower! * If all else fails, try using a different Web browser, such as Firefox.

The precondition on the request for the URL / evaluated to false.
I am using standard Firefox. Anyway, are you getting that page and if not, I wonder why not. I suspect it's failing for a lot of people(?) and if there is another preferred website, let's use it. Whatever - no biggie - just making you aware. Jim 09:02, May 26, 2007 (AKDT)
- Hmmm... strange. I get that message from my work location, but I just figured that it was due to a firewall issue there. I get his website fine from my home. I didn't know that error happened anywhere else. Nope, no other website to use, but that one is valid. -- Sol® 12:50, May 29, 2007 (AKDT)
