Hello Kingfisher !
This is a NZ kingfisher, it's name is kotare in maori. Peterdale
Hi there Kingfisher. Ifn you email me from my user page with the sort of things you would like to do then I can give some thought to the kind of places and people to meet. We are a pretty small nation with 4.2m people in two islands. Things for me to know is how long yu ar eexpecting to travel, do you need work permit, will you have vehicle or hire car/ campervan (RV to you) and so on. I look forward to hearing from you.

I check this webcam and the Homer webcam most every day and I am sure you are aware of it... but thought the link would be cool on your page ! [[1]]

You seem to be acclimatizing just fine here Kingfisher ! Go ahead and post a few words on your USER PAGE and then just sit back and enjoy the view. Eventually, if you have time, you might want to tag some songs or continue to rate the music. Over time things get easier here on the WIKI. I have no TV either and am out of touch with what's going on in the MTV world.. but then . that is why we are all here at WWR dontcha know !! OldGowl (talk) 19:19, June 4, 2008 (AKDT)
P.S. When you sign off on any post on a WIKI site ...use the four tildes .. the little squiggly mark in the upper left hand corner of any Mac or PC keyboard and it will sign and date the post for you
Hey good to hear the Summer Solstice Festival was smashing ! I just looked at your image and I see what needs to be done. Go back to the original image and copy and paste the title of the image exactly as it is with those lines included... I don't think WIKI likes spaces. It should work fine after that minor tweak. Lovely outfit by the way... what were you singing ? OldGowl (talk/contribs) 17:45, June 27, 2008 (AKDT)
Collaboration
Kingfisher, I saw in yesterday's chat that you'd like to contribute more but don't know how to help. On the left side of the page, third box up is the "collaborate" box. Click on "lend a hand," and you'll find a list of clickable areas in which you can help. It'll get you started! — Mert (talk/contribs) 03:38, August 11, 2008 (AKDT)
Question; Wikki ownership
Hi, I have been researching the use of wikkis for meetings etc. I am wondering if there is a way to host a wikki without having to have a moderator. For our group, it would seem that the leadership would go to the owner of the wikki and that that person has the responsibility to keep the wikki up until its use is done. If they take it down for some reason everyone looses their ideas and data.. I see when you created the council you dealt with some of the very issues I am struggling with at the present time, in wondering whether we can use them in a "work-in progress" sort of way. I am really afraid I am going open the group up to a mess if we don't set some rules for usage before we start. Do you have some ideas or resources regarding this.
Thank you for your time.

- I'll try to provide some answers Susan, but I'm not sure if they're what you're looking for...???
- I don't think you want to host a wiki without some sort of "moderator" because it'll quickly fall apart or become prey to spammers. The moderator needn't necessarily be one individual though. That's the beauty of wiki - multiple people can be the "moderator" as is done here at WWR.
- I'm not sure what situation you're trying to apply a wiki model to. Private wikis as simple meeting tools/discussion sites that anyone who's part of the team can use are very popular in the workplace. "Ownership" can easily be transferred between people or companies by simply selling or transferring the domain name and data to another person.
- I can definitely tell you this - running a successful wiki requires a strong commitment both from the "founder" and the organization that will be using it. Many wikis "fail" (i.e. are not kept active and are eventually shut down) because of lack of participation. There needs to be a reason for using a wiki format vs. a forum type site. If you do not have need for a database of information related to the entire project/organization, you might want to see if forum software would suffice.
