I type from the library in the town where I went to high school. It's Monday, and while my dad works on his deadline with the county's weekly paper, my mom tries not to yell at too many first graders, and my sister sleeps, I type.

It was easier to not leave Alaska, and therefore even more surreal to be back here. I had the chance to make my transition into the Lower 48, via a cheaper flight from Anchorage to Chicago O'Hare. Visiting one of my close friends, LB Kollar, in Chicago meant telling the Dem stories of Alaska, with some local political flare. I got to Chi-town on Monday evening, after sitting next to some wonderful folks who were leaving their Homer Home to do some winter traveling. On Wednesday evening, my significant other stood across the street in Forest Park and I ran and jumped on him, giving him back pain for the next couple of days.

We went flower power searching at the Lincoln Park Conservatory, then he went onto a wake on the Southside (originally this was how I was going to meet his parents, I was not feeling awake for that...being quite non-catholic I dig observing the religious practice from a pew right under the father's nose hairs. Otherwise, I have Religion 101 from college has my guidebook.

We had a good time, then he had time with family and friends; it was not his Wake, don't you worry. I stayed on the north side of Chicago, and walked about a mile toward the Latin School where Laura was doing make-up for the students' drama production. Laura is a costume designer in Chicago, her husband is in stage production: Left Wing Productions; they are a cool team.

Since, I had time before I was to meet her and go to dinner with the women of the family, I strolled to the Lake and sat on the cement beach. Then, I walked through a crew filming an A&E TV show called the Beast. With my red University of Georgia Bulldawg beanie, I stood out, and one of the Grips, named Chris, asked why I had a red GreenBay hat. For the 200th time, I explained the beauty of SEC football and then turned my head so he could read the Alaskans for Obama button, also being flaunted.

This Chris then asked me to sit and join the standby folks...I enjoyed just sitting on the park green and watching the choreography of a fight scene. Security asked me to leave, and Chris and another Grip, I guess shouted out: "She's with me...that's my sister." Mr. Chris then brought me a Celebrity Water..."water for the stars" no kidding, which my significant Keith jokes must be patent water complete with Valium.

The Security Man ended up talking with me while we waited for the director to yell action again. This Security Man is in school for a Political Science degree, and was dynamic...so is his mamma, she actually worked for a South Chicago Politician and helped him beat our now President Elect in his first south side political election. Man, small world. Raylun, thanks for talking with me...Mr. Chris Grip, thank you for your time and the water...Y'all thanks for reading...OHIO and driving stories next time.
