Wheathead name: Annette Sparkit Makinitupasigo

Currently...

... Making newspapers - Leavenworth Echo and Cashmere Valley Record (Note that I have little to do with the websites. I'm doing the print side.)

... Drumming up more freelance business. Drop me a line if you have a graphic or publishing project you'd like to talk about.

... Doing ink and watercolors. Digital collages.

... Crocheting - getting really good at hats. :) Working on a poncho now. By the time I get it done the temp should be 95 degrees.

... Diddling with Flash. later...

... wikipedia visual arts articles. - got tired of the haggling and vandalism.

... Reading

  • Foucault's Pendulum by Umberto Eco. Just started it, but I loved The Name of the Rose and hope this novel is just as interesting.
  • Growing a Business - someone Hawken of Smith & Hawken
  • View: Parade of the Avant-Garde: 1940-1947, edited by Charles Henri Ford

... Read in 2008

  • My Ántonia by Willa Cather. Beautiful novel first published in 1918 about growing up in the pioneer era in Nebraska.
  • The Lessons of Terror - A History of Warfare Against Civilians: Why It Has Always Failed and Why It Will Fail Again by Caleb Carr. I found this book absolutely fascinating. Carr asserts that war that targets non-combatants (terrorism or "total war") always fails in the mid- to long-term, yet countries keep doing it over and over and over. I highly recommend this book for anyone trying to make sense out of modern war.
  • Groucho and Me by Groucho Marx (1959). I found the book at the local thrift store and had a lot of fun reading it. Groucho's gift for storytelling wasn't seen much on stage, but he definitely had the storyteller thing down. He writes of growing up in New York City, of his brothers, of his mom being the ultimate stage mom, about his flirtations and the development of his career. I'm passing it on to Kloss.

Someone said...

In the end we shall have had enough of cynicism and skepticism and humbug and we shall want to live more musically.
     — Vincent Van Gogh

Those who make peaceful revolution impossible will make violent revolution inevitable.
     — Martin Luther King, Jr, April 4, 1967

"Those who profess to favor freedom, yet deprecate agitation, are men who want crops without planting the ground. They want rain without thunder and lightning. They want the ocean without the awful roar of its waters. Power concedes nothing without a demand. It never did and it never will.
     — Frederick Douglass (1857)

Find the wheatberries in this photo I haven't found my wheatberry stash. I don't know which box they're in.

Horoscope

Today's horoscope for Libra:
You will be given a great deal of power today, although you might not realize it at first. The amount of attention you are getting from others is about to increase greatly -- are you prepared for being in the spotlight a lot more often? Make sure you look your best, and be ready to answer questions. At first, this situation might make you nervous. But once you get going, there will be no stopping you! You were born to be a leader, so enjoy your birthright.
Looks like a 4 wheatberry day for you dear Libra.
