Trivia, story behind the song, etc.
When I first met Kathy Sheehan at the North Star Bar in Philadelphia, she had just decided to take a 4 month leave of absence from her job at the Daily News to sail to Tahiti with Bachelor number 1. (I later found out I was Bachelor number 3...) At the same time, I would be moving back to Bellingham, so we figured we'd have a fling and that would be the end of it.
I went with her to a tutorial on celestial navigation taught by a charming, eccentric old man. As it grew closer to our departure dates, we realized it was not going to be easy to say goodbye. This song was a result of that emotional turmoil.
(She left on the trip, but jumped ship in the Galapagos Islands to spend the summer in Bellingham with me. A year later we were married.)
