- I learned this off a Ramblin' Jack record. I read once that Jack had asked Woody Guthrie to teach him a particular song, and Woody said to him, "It's on the record!" I think that rubbed off a bit on Jack because he's not one to sit around too often and teach songs. I did one time get him to show me a bit of If I were a Carpenter, but I'd been driving his motorhome for several hours and he felt in a generous mood. But usually, you'd have to watch and listen to catch a song from Jack. (from Tim Grimm's website)
