Lyrics
Words spoken by Pete Seeger, quoted from various sources, including
- William James (1899); "I am done with big things and great things, and I am for those tiny, invisible, molecular forces that creep from individual to individual like so many rootlets, or like the capillary action of water, yet which, if you give them time, will rend the hardest monument of man's pride."
- a Columbine High School student (1999), "The paradox of our time in history, Is that we have taller buildings but shorter tempers, We have wider freeways but narrower viewpoints, We spend more but we have less, We buy more but we enjoy it less, We have bigger houses and smaller families, More conveniences and less time, We have more degrees but less depth, More knowledge but less judgement, More experts but more problems, More medicine but less wellness.";
- and Dwight D. Eisenhower, in his last televised address to the nation (1961), "Disarmament with mutual honor and confidence is a continuing imperative. Together we must learn how to compose differences, not with arms, but with intellect and decent purpose. Another war could utterly destroy this civilization, which has been so slowly and painfully built over thousands of years. We must guard against the acquisition of unwarranted influence, whether sought or unsought, by the military industrial complex."
Listener comments
- The song Industrial Park was played a lot when I first started listening. I will forever associate it with WWR. I just love the way that banjo starts it out. And I also remember the morning when WWR was caught in an endless sound loop -- playing the last 20 seconds of that song (the "industrial" part) over and over and over and over. It must have gone on for at least an hour. Those were the days. --J-Walk 17:02, April 7, 2006 (AKDT)
