Lyrics

Home Again (by John Batdorf, Song ID#s: 123796, 135084, 135107)
Verse 1:
Opened up the daylight found me
Sitting underneath an old tree
Clearing up what once was cloudy
Knowing most of all, I'm happy

Chorus:
All my life, I've waited for this day,
I am home again
And oh my life, you helped me find the way
I am home again

Verse 2:
Have a new direction facing
Now I'm sought instead of chasing
Time to slow down no more racing
Spend some time at home, embracing

[repeat Chorus]

Bridge:
Nothing in the air but singing
Music plays in harmony
Everything around is ringing
Happiness at last found me
Happiness at last found me

[repeat Chorus]

John (Batdorf)'s perspective............ (Song ID#s: 123796 135084, 135107)

"I remember writing this song back in 1972. We [John Batdorf & Mark Rodney] had been on tour promoting Off The Shelf, and now it was time to write some new stuff. The whole band, Mark, Rick Carlos, John Mauceri and I, all lived in a great old house in Hollywood. I would sit out on that front porch shaded by some really old trees and playing away until a song would work it's way to the surface. This song was about how euphoric I felt about my career and life at that moment. I really felt at home! I am very happy this one came!"

One of my all-time favorite Batdorf & Rodney songs - I just absolutely love the acoustic guitar parts. This song came out in 1972 on the second Batdorf & Rodney album (Batdorf & Rodney), immediately before I was drafted into the Army, so it holds a special place in my heart. I had misgivings when I saw it had been re-recorded for John's solo album, since (to me, anyway) I feel that the original version of almost every song is the definitive version. The original B&R recording will always be my favorite, but this rendition does more than merely acquit itself nicely, aided I'm sure in no small part by the reunion with Mark. An absolutely superb reinterpretation!
