The purpose of this page is to tie together pages that describe procedures specific to the Macintosh brand of computers.

Old Systems (Pre-MacOSX - below 10.1)

Operating systems prior to 10.1 were monolithic and proprietary, and did not support process preemption or memory bounds protection. The codebase was eventually abandoned (see Darwin).

The streaming audio player suggested by WWR seems to no longer exist, at least it was unfindable at the time this author tried to find it. zben 10:15, 21 March 2006 (AKST)

The chat is accessable via the Netscape web browser.

New Systems (MacOSX - 10.1 and above)

Operating systems 10.1 and above consist of BSD-flavored command binaries running on a Mac-Mach (Macintosh version of Carnegie-Mellon Mach) microkernel. Proprietary software (Darwin), based on NextStep, provides a clumsy and idiosyncratic imitation of the original Macintosh user interface.

Streaming audio can be played using the ITunes program, which is supplied as a part of the standard system software.

Since Jimbob removed a bunch of "unneeded code" from the chat server, the chat can no longer be accessed via the Netscape web browser. I'm currently using Firefox. zben 7:29, 22 July 2007 (EDT))

Just tested, chat works in the Apple-Intel Universal Binary versions of Firefox, Shiira and Safari with JavaScript enabled. Rubenerd 00:23, May 2, 2006 (AKDT)

The MP3 tags page covers editing of tag information (within MP3 format digitized music files) on the Macintosh platform.
