Biography

So here is a bit about myself; I was born in 1953 to Warren and Shirley in Berkeley California, then age three, moved to the San Fernando Valley where I learned to fly out at Whiteman Airpark in Pacoima, worked there and at Van Nuys Airport, traded allot of work for flying time. My first flying job was towing gliders on the weekends and working for Beechcraft West aircraft sales department as a Ferry Pilot. I moved to Alaska in 1975, worked in Anchorage til spring of 76 then moved to Talkeetna where I worked for Cliff Hudson as an Air Taxi Pilot. A few years later I started up my own air service, Doug Geeting Aviation, and sold in 2005. Now days I fly part time and do a few gigs each week. My music started as a kid, my mom played piano and taught me the basic stuff about music. Flying and music are the two dependable loves in my life. They have been a blessing. I am working on a new CD, should be getting finished up by spring time.

Quotes About Doug Geeting

The water I am most comfortable landing on is usually not frozen, but Doug Geeting introduced me to mountain flying and glacier landings and I have been hooked since. The Gods of Denali have given him their blessing to be a courier for the earthlings who wish to spend a few unforgettable moments in their sacred altitudes." - Jimmy Buffett.

52 year old Doug Geeting earns his living as a pilot flying the mountains of Alaska delivering mountain climbers, river rafters, gold miners, and tourist to some of the most remote parts of the state. He rarely lands on asphalt, mostly glaciers and river bars. His style of playing wanders from Hillbilly Country to New Age Acoustic Overdrive (Alaska Public Radio Network's Instrumental of the year for Fairwell to Mugs and Spur Road Speed King). Both of his cds, 'Between Flights' and The Alaskan Mile, have flown in space aboard the space shuttle as part of the Shuttle Juke box. Doug has opened shows for Ramblin Jack Elliott, Guy Clark & Verlon Thompson, Spider John Koerner, Stacey Earle, Eric Andersen, Steve Young, Bill Staines, and Cheryl Wheeler, John Gorka, Patty Larkin, Tom Russell & Andrew Hardin, Norton Buffalo & Roy Rogers, Arlo Guthrie and family, Dougie Maclean The Whalen Jennies, and others.
