| 2:10 pm | Kelli (talk/contribs) | Jim always records them, Jenny. | |
| 2:10 pm | 12-stringer (talk/contribs) | I'll give it a shot, Mert - but no guarantees ... | |
| 2:09 pm | Peterdale (talk/contribs) | The final installment -- before the arrival of Europeans the only animals were a slow breeding rat and a small type of dog, both brought from (probably) Hawai'i or Rarotonga when the Maori settled here in Aotearoa (land of long white cloud) in the (probably) 13th century. Before then it was all birds and lizzards. the only mamals were whales, dolphins and seals. | |
| 2:07 pm | Mert (talk/contribs) | Thanks again, Peter! 12, there's a blues show coming up in which some of the tunes might be mistagged. I'm cooking; can you catch 'em? | |
| 2:04 pm | Peterdale (talk/contribs) | Mertissima, they are not great parents, spending little time rearing their young. They have also been eaten to near distinction by stoats, and their eggs by weasles and rats that came along for the ride with early navigators and settlers. | |
| 2:03 pm | Jenny (talk/contribs) | ||
| 2:02 pm | 12-stringer (talk/contribs) | That wouldn't be like the legendary Ooo-Ahh bird that lays square eggs, would it? "Oooo - oooo - oooo - ahhhhhhhhhh!" | |
| 2:02 pm | Peterdale (talk/contribs) | Kiwifruit is a made up name to get around former sensitivities over China in the cold war era. Before then they were officially named Chinese Gooseberries, but strangely Americans would not buy a fruit related to China. We think of Kiwifruit as hairy berries, and eat them frequently. They make simply the best marinade for beef or lamb. One plant will rapidly take over your garden if you are not careful, and then, as with us, you will have an embarrassing surfeit. | |
| 2:00 pm | Mert (talk/contribs) | Thank you, Peter. Why are they endangered? | |
| 1:57 pm | Peterdale (talk/contribs) | Yes, we are named after a flightless bird, than feeds at night, and which lays an egg, the size of which brings tears to the eyes at the thought. It is also an endangered bird. Indeed very few New Zealanders have seen one! The call of the kiwi is a screetch that makes the hairs on the back of your neck stiffen | |
| 1:49 pm | 12-stringer (talk/contribs) | Thank you for the "Easy pickings" set, Mert | |
| 1:23 pm | Mert (talk/contribs) | Oh, good. Better a bird than a fruit. | |
| 1:09 pm | 12-stringer (talk/contribs) | When I hear "kiwi", I think of the flightless bird pictured on the shoe/boot polish container, which it was my mission to use frequently for oh so many years while serving in the military. I believe you're referring to a kiwifruit, Mert. | |
| 1:00 pm | Mert (talk/contribs) | I know kiwis come from New Zealand, but I don't think it's a complimentary name for the residents. My friend Peterdale does not look like a fuzzy, little, green fruit. | |
| 12:09 pm | Scobey (talk/contribs) | (Serenade In Blue / I Remember Glenn Miller / Ray Anthony) Wrong song | |

| 11:52 am | Scobey (talk/contribs) | I can talk just like my Aussie neighbor, mate. | |
| 11:52 am | Scobey (talk/contribs) | All Kiwis sound alike to me! | |
| 11:51 am | Peterdale (talk/contribs) | All americans sound the same to me! | |
| 11:48 am | Scobey (talk/contribs) | I think they shoot dissatisfied customers | |
| 11:43 am | 12-stringer (talk/contribs) | Indeed, DrDoug - a buddy and I were often hired for that very reason | |
| 11:40 am | Doctordoug (talk/contribs) | I've played in bands that cleared rooms. | |

| 11:12 am | Scobey (talk/contribs) | Sounds like the mortgage got too close to the insurance policy. | |
| 11:05 am | Mert (talk/contribs) | Thanks, cd. I appreciate the thought. I didn't mean to complain. | |
| 11:05 am | countrydave (talk/contribs) | I'm checking in from the prairies of Saskatchewan where it is more or less sunny and the air is clear. I would send you some air if I could! | |
| 11:04 am | Mert (talk/contribs) | Doc says I need to elevate my feet for awhile every day to avoid looking like I have elephantitis, so away-but-listening during the Shant. | |
| 11:01 am | Mert (talk/contribs) | Maybe you'd like to be here where it's hot, humid, sticky, and the air quaility is so bad they tell folks with respiratory problems not to go outside. Count yer blessings! | |
| 10:57 am | Scobey (talk/contribs) | Weather is crap in Anchorage too! | |
| 10:48 am | Jim (talk/contribs) | ||
| 10:47 am | Jim (talk/contribs) | Rainy day here. Not so nice for Meg's drive up from Anchorage. A good day to be inside though. And I keep thinking it's Saturday for some reason. | |
| 10:46 am | Mert (talk/contribs) | Kind of an exercise in paying attention. | |
| 10:46 am | Mert (talk/contribs) | I like the lag ... adds an element of surprise. | |
| 10:45 am | Doctordoug (talk/contribs) | Thanks Jim,... Took me a while to figure out to choos just search images,.. Hope I remember... | |
| 10:42 am | Jim (talk/contribs) | Oh and FWIW, the audio lag option is not designed to refresh What's Playing exactly when the song changes. It's designed to do it anywhere from 10-20 seconds after the song ends and a new one starts. And when there are clips or EJ voices in between, it just refreshes every 20 seconds after that because it has no idea how long a clip or EJ will have the mic. The way the javascript works, on page load it just looks at when a song ends, adds 15-20 secs. to it, then refreshes. It has no idea what is actually playing. Without writing sophisticated browser code that would likely never work well, it's a difficult problem to code around. Probably the best indicator of what's playing is the player itself. Almost all of them have an option to display the song title /artist from a stream. Since that is coming directly from the audio server and not the webserver, it's quite accurate. | |
| 10:35 am | Jim (talk/contribs) | How I used the search feature to find that specific emoticon | |
| 10:34 am | Jim (talk/contribs) | ||
| 10:33 am | Jim (talk/contribs) | Yeah DD - I just did a search on Images only for "dancing" and found it in the emoticons. That's the only way I would have found it. | |
| 10:31 am | Doctordoug (talk/contribs) | Yes I did Jim,.. I took a stab,.. and missed.. Thanks so much BTW.. Image:A lot of us dancing.gif | |
| 10:30 am | Mert (talk/contribs) | I beg your pardon? Last time I looked ... | |
| 10:30 am | Scobey (talk/contribs) | Don't think sad is appropriate | |
| 10:29 am | Jim (talk/contribs) | DD you meant Lots_of_us_dancing but since anyone can now make emoticons, I'll just upload what you wanted to call it so either will work from now on. | |
| 10:28 am | Jim (talk/contribs) | She's say Sad old men with nothing better to do... ??? | |
| 10:28 am | Mert (talk/contribs) | Probably, "That woman should be committed." | |
| 10:27 am | Scobey (talk/contribs) | ||
| 10:27 am | Mert (talk/contribs) | I wonder what she'd say if she read this. | |
| 10:26 am | Scobey (talk/contribs) | I'll admit to any Meg - | |
| 10:25 am | Jim (talk/contribs) | Scobey is a Meg-alomaniac. | |
| 10:23 am | Mert (talk/contribs) | Got it, Jim. Not surprised either. | |
| 10:22 am | Mert (talk/contribs) | Oh, Megdonalds was Scobey's. Doug, aren't you glad we don't live in your neighborhood? | |
| 10:22 am | Jim (talk/contribs) | The EJs replaced a lot of the Artist images with older (read terrible) revisions, and three of four times now with pics I replaced because they were of the wrong person. Example? I'd love to see one. The EJs are incapable of replacing images. Only deleting them. | |
| 10:21 am | Jim (talk/contribs) | G'morning. Re David Grimes photo - yes, he was very specific about wanting it sideways like that. So I reverted. Not surprising with all his "Trickster" imagery. | |
| 10:21 am | Mert (talk/contribs) | Scobey is a Meg-alomaniac. | |
| 10:20 am | Scobey (talk/contribs) | SuperMegfan | |
| 10:20 am | Mert (talk/contribs) | Oh, my, here we go ... good one, dd. | |
| 10:19 am | Scobey (talk/contribs) | Or go to O'Brady's and have a Meg of beer. | |
| 10:19 am | Mert (talk/contribs) | Yes, Scobe, you may be the only one who can claim Megstalker. | |
| 10:19 am | Scobey (talk/contribs) | I think I'll go to Megdonalds today. | |
| 10:18 am | Doctordoug (talk/contribs) | I'm still emoticonless actually... | |
| 10:18 am | Scobey (talk/contribs) | Megmeister | |
| 10:17 am | Scobey (talk/contribs) | That's ok. I'm the Megstalker | |
| 10:16 am | Mert (talk/contribs) | I know, y'all are speechless. | |
| 10:10 am | Mert (talk/contribs) | I forgot Megketeer. | |
| 10:08 am | Mert (talk/contribs) | Okay, I'm officially laying claim (at least here) to the coinage of Meghead: the avid Meg Hutchinson fan. Also, Megaroo, Megster, Meggie, etc. And the quick referral: Meginson. (This is actually the kind of crap I think about.) | |
| 9:52 am | Doctordoug (talk/contribs) | Music week I think. Image:A lot of us dancing.gif | |
| 9:38 am | Mert (talk/contribs) | ..Songwriter Week? | |
| 9:38 am | Mert (talk/contribs) | As opposed to Cute, Young, Female Singer- | |
| 9:34 am | Kazookid (talk/contribs) | Is this Celtic Hour or is it the Violin Hour? Or is it both? | |
| 9:28 am | Mert (talk/contribs) | Yes, we need Crooked Still! | |
| 9:27 am | Mert (talk/contribs) | Kimchi, yes, thanks, haven't looked yet but will today. | |
| 9:18 am | Chili (talk/contribs) | well, after the song by that DeSombre chick—tata mrs egg | |
| 9:13 am | E.D. Egg (talk/contribs) | (and yes, there's no Crooked Still at WWR. I'll see what I can do to remedy that.) | |
| 9:13 am | E.D. Egg (talk/contribs) | OK; heading out (well, after the song by that DeSombre chick). Going tonight to see my favorite band - Crooked Still - play, and on the way there this afternoon I'm going to do work in the coffeeshops of the Back Bay while my spouse goes to the Museum of Fine Arts. | |
| 9:10 am | Kimchifox (talk/contribs) | Hey Mert! Get my email yesterday? | |
| 9:04 am | Mert (talk/contribs) | (Un Poquito De Salsa / Violin Caliente / Susan Jones) Thanks, Dean! Good choice. | |
| 9:02 am | Mert (talk/contribs) | Put it on Jim's talk page. | |
| 8:58 am | Kazookid (talk/contribs) | The EJs replaced a lot of the Artist images with older (read terrible) revisions, and three of four times now with pics I replaced because they were of the wrong person. | |
| 8:54 am | Kazookid (talk/contribs) | Right now my page is refreshing 4 seconds ahead of the song change | |
| 8:48 am | Mert (talk/contribs) | I'm remarkably fond of the Boston crew. Nice to have you pitching for WWR. | |
| 8:47 am | Mert (talk/contribs) | That wasn't clear from Jim's summary comment. | |
| 8:47 am | E.D. Egg (talk/contribs) | Will do (on the Jake request). | |
| 8:46 am | Mert (talk/contribs) | Okay, got it, Kaz. | |
| 8:45 am | Mert (talk/contribs) | Beth, ask Jake to send more? | |
| 8:45 am | Kazookid (talk/contribs) | What Grimes was saying was he put the picture up sideways on purpose. | |
| 8:44 am | E.D. Egg (talk/contribs) | In this song he gives -- in order -- the names of the streets in the Back Bay (a section of Boston), embedded in the lyrics. Impressive. | |
| 8:44 am | Mert (talk/contribs) | We need more Jake. | |
| 8:43 am | E.D. Egg (talk/contribs) | on (Peace Of Mind (Lo |
