Really, it looks to me like this whole page is full of birthday greetings to all sorts of people. That is pretty upbeat. I only put the Utah Phillips note here because i thought it was worthy of mention. Would it be better to take it off this page and just leave it on the Community News page? Utah Phillips was a huge part of the folk world and I just thought people would like to know. I debated about where to put it. As always, I welcome the advice of those more knowledgeable than I. Sheesh, what is going on with this group, illness and lives lost. Seems not that long ago, the worst thing that happened here was Jim insulting one of us. Now the news seems to be much worse and extremely more personal. Though I grieve with all that hurt and cry with those that have lost. And I am appreciative of this place where we can express our aches, but I also want to make the comment that we get to personally chose to hurt or we can chose to smile. Yes, I know, I sound insensitive but please hear me out. Loss does hurt but I am reminded of the man that lost his wife and children, was plagued with sores that made his skin burst. His friends even turned their approach of sympathy to scorn. Yet this man remained determined to stay upbeat. Why? Because it was his choice to do so. His choice, nothing more. So If I sound unsympathetic, please remember that it is my choice to remember the fun that was shared with those lost, not how much I will ache for their leaving. Hi Jac! (Can't say that on a plane these days!) I read the above and seriously resonate -- I served and served with those who died; however, I take umbrage with your comment regarding Jimbob. I don't believe Jim ever intends to insult any one of us. But you know what? You throw out some criticism/pain, be prepared to get some criticism/pain in return. You're talking about his 'baby' here! Now, Saturday cum Sunday Night Fish Fry aside (that was one big fish and a whole lotta wine!), I will always smile at the devil and revel in the blues with a smile, but then, that's just me.
