I have noticed a number on Spanish language songs tagged with "Latin." As I believe the intent is to identify the language of the song, isn't "Spanish" more appropriate, or perhaps the two tags could just be merged into "Spanish." Kimchifox (talk/contribs) 10:04, June 11, 2008 (AKDT)

My understanding is Spanish is the language and Latin is a style of music. Kelli (talk/contribs) 10:17, June 11, 2008 (AKDT)

Good question Kimchifox! I'm no expert but I think Latin music is a distinct style of music. It may or may not be sung in Spanish. So I think they are two distinct terms and should remain as such. But I'll be the first one to admit I know next to nothing about that genre and will defer to anyone who is a Latin/Spanish music expert. Jim (talk/contribs) 10:20, June 11, 2008 (AKDT)

I agree about the tags. Some of the Latin music on wwr is in Portuguese or English languages, for example. Denali (talk/contribs) 15:59, June 11, 2008 (AKDT)

After reading both of your responses, I now understand why the two tags are appropriate to use. So, unless someone else feels that the merge question should be taken to a vote, I am apt to say, "Never mind!" Kimchifox (talk/contribs) 10:54, June 11, 2008 (AKDT)

I think that is fine, but it would be good to add descriptions to these tags. Kelli (talk/contribs) 10:59, June 11, 2008 (AKDT)
Hi Kelly. Can I assume that you've addressed this via tag categories or would you like me to add descriptions? I can certainly do that, but it's not clear to me where I would need to edit. Thanks! Kimchifox (talk/contribs) 12:08, June 11, 2008 (AKDT)
I added descriptions to Category:Latin and Category:Spanish. I like to add it to the top of the category page and link to the source. If you're ever looking for something to edit, there are still a lot of tags without descriptions. And it's a good way to find ones that we need to eliminate.
