From WWR

Originated in Brazil by the early 1900s as a form of couple dance music, with influences from Angola, Congo and Portugal. By the 1930s it became the national music style of Brazil. The style is noted for intricate harmonies. Samba has a highly syncopated 2/4 rhythm with a main beat and a muted beat. Bossa Nova is a derivative style of music.
