Vequinox started playing music together in 1998 under the former name "The Venusians." At that time, Chad and Lisa set out to make music that was very different. Shortly after writing a few songs, Chad and Lisa asked a good friend of theirs, Dennis Lee, to join the band to provide a percussive element.
When one listens to music by Vequinox, it is plain to see that their influences are quite diverse. All members of the band are long time enthusiasts of world/ambient music. Their is also a mutual influence the band shares with music of the late 60's. Include 80's new wave, Electronica, and various darkwave bands, and that still does not cover all that the band is influenced by.
One of the things that make the band unique is the exotic instrumentation. They use bowed psaltery, sitar, hammered dulcimer, and tabla drums, along with well known instruments such as guitar and trumpet. They weave these instruments with beautiful voices to create truly original pieces of music.
Vequinox (The Venusians) have played a number of venues in the Pittsburgh PA area including Cafe Au Lait (now Rum Shakers), Lester Hamburg Theatre (dark night series), Celtic Harvest (White Oak), Rosebud, The Mattress Factory (art gallery), Ellsworth Avenue Street Fair, etc. read more.
