Sony Holland is orignally from Pelican Rapids, Minnesota but has lived in Denver, Paris and Nashville before landing in San Francisco. She started out here by singing on the streets of Fisherman's Wharf and graduated to headlining at the top Bay Area venues. Sony's sold out On A San Francisco High CD release show at Pearl's was covered in the San Francisco Chronicle and her following has been growing ever since. These days she gigs regularly around the Bay Area at places like JAZZ AT PEARL'S, YOSHI'S, THE EMPIRE PLUSH ROOM, etc. She also spent much of 2005 performing in Hong Kong and Tokyo.
In 2008 vocalist Sony Holland will release a new CD titled "Swing, Bossas, Ballads & Blues." The CD was recorded by Grammy winning engineer Leslie Ann Jones at Skywalker Sound and features some of the Bay Area's finest jazz musicians.
An ardent following has surrounded this San Francisco jazz singer as her artistry grows with each international engagement and new recording. Ms. Holland kicked of 2007 with a concert at Yoshi's in Oakland, which was also recorded for broadcast on KCSM. She spent the next three months performing at the swanky Sirroco room in Bangkok, and returned home to three sold-out nights at Jazz @ Pearl's in North Beach. This fall she also performed at The Empire Plush Room, The San Jose Jazz Festival, The Peppermill in Reno, the Carmel Jazz & Blues Company, Yoshi's San Francisco and much more.
Ms. Holland swings effortlessly through a set list of great songs filled with sensuality and intelligence. Gems by Weill, Warren, Legrand (and more) smolder intensely in the warmth of Sony’s luscious instrument.
In addition to her concert schedule and recording dates, Sony is a sought out entertainer at events of all kinds. Recently she joined with the Mayor and other SF luminaries to benefit the Music In Schools Today program, and also appeared in the annual Christmas fund raiser for the Richmond Ermet AIDS Foundation at the Herbst Theater.
