Rick Spreitzer beats a guitar like an old man cleaning a dirty rug. He sings like nobody’s angel. But if you spend any time with his songs, you’re struck by the poetry that lies nestled within… battered and blue, slung from a bruised chest and a sideways grin.
“A good song is a shooting star: carving a faint but memorable trail into open sky. My aim is to write in a way that both illuminates and encourages small discoveries in such wide open spaces… where poetry and mystery can serve as both wind and wing.”
The Rick Spreitzer Trio has lately become a One More-O and consists of Kevin Edwards (and his Martin arsenal) 1990's Martin 000-28 and a 1970's D-35 cannon. JD Wilson: Tacoma mandolin, Regal dobro, Guild Mark-series classical and any number of Guild acoustics. Angelo Melendez on a bumble bee yellow Fender electric bass. Me: a frighteningly beautiful 2005 Larrivee 000-60, a Montana-built Gibson J-45 (and the unborn child of a couple hundred bucks wriggling in my pocket, which could turn into a small body at any moment!)
Aside from trio shows with Kevin and JD, I'm also involved in a series of "Trading Songs" gigs with the likes of Michael Reno Harrell, David Childers, Chris Cook, Terry Clarke, Mike Strauss, Tom Eure, Mike Orlando, Trip Rogers, Blaine and Leah Howard, Billy Jones, Kate Minogue, Heidi Sidelinker, Herschel Browne and others.
