Red Letter Day ...best known for thoughtfully potent songwriting, intriguing vocal harmonies and a guise onstage reminiscent of a Yin and Yang delivery. An RLD show is often spattered with ballads retrospect of the writing of John Prine to irreverant rock bearing the caustic humor of Richard Thompson. Combining a variety of styles, subject matter and instruments has become a Red Letter Day trademark as they effortlessly meld alterna-rock, country hip hop, blues and acoustic "thrash".
Vocally, Suzanna Mallow has been compared to the raspy power of Bonnie Raitt while Andrea Jones carries the sweetness of an Edie Brickell. Jones, also performing on Saxophone plays with much of the "in the moment" freedom of a Joshua Redmond. Jones supports Mallow's aggressive rhythm acoustic guitar, electric guitar and mandolin performances with steady bass guitar, a variety of recorders, small kit and hand held percussion. The two of them bring out a fullness in sound that is unparalled.
RLD has produced three full length CD’s and one CD single with a club mix in the almost ten years of touring nationally. They have garnered seven Washington Area Music Association (WAMA) award nominations and been finalists in Lilith Fair competitions. RLD has been voted best band and duo several times in East Coast regional publications and thier song "Loser" off of the most recent CD "Beefcandy" was given a national nomination for best pop rock song by Just Plain Folks in 2001. Red Letter Day has performed with Edwin McCain, Jann Arden, Little Feat, The BoDeans, Dar Williams and John Wesley Harding and at events with the Indigo Girls, Elton John, Melissa Etheridge..
