Called “angry and groovy at the same time” by legendary DJ Gene Shay, Real West is what happens when three friends born in 1970 are fed a diet of syndicated 60s pop culture and cold war paranoia before discovering cool jazz, Johnny Cash and a social conscience. A touch of Burt Bacharach is the sweet dollop atop their "acoustic jazzabilly" sound.
Based in Allentown, Pennsylvania, Real West was formed by Mark Graham (vocals, guitar) and Brandon Kwiatek (bass) in 2001. Nathan Wagner (piano/keys) joined them in 2006. The band has been invited to play at the Summer 2004 Antifolk Festival in New York City, RiverFusion 2006/07 in Bethlehem, Pennsylvania, the 2006/07 SouthSide Film Festival (Bethlehem) and the Allentown Art Museum (2006); Gene Shay’s Folk Show (WXPN Philadelphia) and the Acoustic Philly Festival (2007). Real West’s debut CD, War is a Wonderful Thing,(2005), has received national and international airplay.
