crab`grass`,(krab`gras), n., v., crabgrassed, crabgrassing, an annual grass, Digitarius sanguinalis, common in cultivated and waste grounds and often occurring as a weedy pest in lawns.
According to Mr. Webster, that's Crabgrass, and the Panhandle Crabgrass Revival Band couldn't agree more. Summer pickin' sessions on the front lawn have often prompted neighbors to call the Police. But when they showed up, addressing the band by their first names and chanting "Free Beer!! Free Beer!!", it was all over. Crabgrass was once again established as the weedy pest on the manicured lawn of overpolished acoustic music. Upright bass, guitar, mandolin, Banjo, fiddle and harmonica make up the instrumentation of this conglomeration from Juneau, Alaska. Years of collective unemployment have allowed Crabgrass to develop its own thriving and energetic brand of thrummin' strummin', to the delight and fright of fans all over the Southeastern Alaska Panhandle, and across the entire great state. Don't let the instrumentation fool ya though. Drawing from a rich and varied group of acoustic and electric musicians, Crabgrass has formed itself on accident. A heretofore unrecognizable form of music has taken root in America. The band's complete lack of ambition to seek real jobs promises expansion of a growing original repertoire of tunes which includes the Panhandle Crabgrass Revival Band song, Hippie Kelp Farmer, and the Kiss of a Bottle (is what you need tonight). "Live is Where We Thrive", so look for a Crabgrass show in the future near you, and hold on to your hats. These pickers and grinners, thickers and thinners, snickers and sinners are the fresh new breeze that acoustic music needs; and like the weedy pests they are, won't be goin' away any time soon.
