Singer/Songwriter John MOOSSA from Richmond, VA fronts a stellar band of local notables. These seasoned veterans of the Richmond club scene work well together, weaving woes and worries into colorful patterns of reggae, blues, folk and rock that come at you straight from the heart. Songs drift in emotion from the brooding "Blood Rage" & "Absent Without Leave" to the seductively hopeful "Katrina" & "Girl on a Hill with a Mirror".

Their repertoire of original music is described as lively, funky, dark, fun and groovin'. The thoughtful lyrics and moving rhythms of the group lure listeners along on a soul-searching musical odyssey. Influences include Bob Marley, Bob Dylan, Paul Simon and Miles Davis to name a few. They invite comparison to all sorts of other groups such as the Violent Femmes, the Dave Matthews Band, the Wailers and even Johnny Cash.

MOOSSA's 4-song demo EP, recently recorded at Richmond's Sound of Music, speaks for itself. MOOSSA is a respected songwriter whose experienced voice is part hauntingly familiar and part soulfully unique. He does most of the singing and plays acoustic guitar. His mates on the EP are; Jason Campbell (electric guitars, backing vocals, keys), Randall Pharr (bass), and Dusty Ray Simmons (drums). Of late the group has been joined on stage by guitarist Jim Fabricatore. Each player brings a unique flavor to the mix. Bassist Pharr is a familiar face on the regional jazz circuit. He anchors the band on both upright as well as electric bass.

Having developed the live show in Virginia, MOOSSA is beginning to share its talent with the rest of the country. With a taste of radio play and the promise of completing a new CD by early spring, the John MOOSSA Band is on its way towards revealing one of Richmond's best-kept secrets to the rest of the music world.
