Voted the #1 all-time female vocalist in Garageband's acoustic category in May of 2006, Liz Longley's textured voice evokes unconventional reactions from music lovers. "The voice of a goddess" writes seasoned musician Jason Canary. It's rare that a voice can arouse the listener to such levels, but this songstress does it...from the sweet velvet-ness of her voice to the passion in which she sings". Canary nicely sums up how people respond to Liz. Even influential artist Ani DiFranco, known for her starkly frank lyrics, has praised Liz's music as "Gorgeous", adding, "I love it".
Liz first captivated listeners at age fifteen, when she performed an original song at a high school concert. Spurred on by the unusual response to her performance, she continued songwriting, creating deeply personal songs. Her first recordings caught the attention of award winning producer, Jim Tullio (Mavis Staples, Los Lonely Boys, Richie Havens). Separated by a generation in age, the two songwriters teamed-up to write extraordinary melodies including "Naked Trees". That song, featuring just Liz at the piano, became an internet smash: it was the #1 song for over five months in Garageband.com's singer-songwriter category.
Often accompanied by guitar talent Sarah Zimmermann, Liz has performed at Philly's Tin Angel, The World Café, the Berks Jazz Fest, Steel City Coffeehouse and Chaplin's Music Café. This past summer she made her first appearance at the legendary Philly Folk Fest. She has also performed on television shows NBC's "Ten!" and CN8's "Comcast Tonight". As a scholarship student at the Berklee College of Music, Liz also performs regularly in the Boston area.
Recently Liz finished recording a full CD entitled "Take You Down" at Morningstar Studios. Glenn Barratt, the Grammy award winning engineer and producer at Morningstar, has immersed himself in the project. In addition to her own original material, the CD will include three songs co-written with songwriter Bill Deasy, another written by friend and fellow musician, Sarah Zimmermann and a popular Joni Mitchell cover.
