Jon Waterman sings and writes country music that resonates with American roots. His songs and performances paint pictures and tell tales - the everyday and extraordinary stories of drifters, seekers, lovers, and larger-than-life bandits and heroes. His alt. country sound is heavily influenced by honest, raw, and well-aged music from across the American landscape.

Jon has crossed the American landscape in real time as well. Originally from Phoenix, he has made his home in New England. He has also spent time in the Midwest, Northern Arizona, Texas, and Pennsylvania, and toured to such places as Nashville, Memphis, Burlington, New York and the D.C. area. Along the way, he has performed extensively, entertaining audiences at festivals and respected venues, as well as in nursing homes, hospitals and schools.

Jon Waterman started playing 12-string guitar and writing songs while in Arizona. When he moved to the Boston area, he brought his Southwestern honky-tonk roots to the New England coffeehouse circuit. In October 2003, Jon released his first CD Taking the Fall. The CD features 12 original songs and an impressive list of supporting musicians that includes acclaimed drummer Dave Mattacks (Fairport Convention, Richard Thompson), Raymond Gonzalez, and Brian Maes (RTZ).

In 2005, Jon's song 'Sultana' which tells the story of an ill-fated Civil War steamship, was selected for use in an upcoming documentary on the disaster titled 'Sultana: Soldiers of Misfortune'. In April of 2005, Jon was invited to perform the song at the Annual Reunion of Sultana descendants in Vicksburg, Mississippi. In November of 2005, Jon performed 'Sultana' on the acclaimed Thacker Mountain Radio Show out of Oxford Mississippi in honor of Veterans Day. Also in 2005, Jon put together and performed at a successful and well-publicized two day concert in Beverly, Massachusetts, to benefit the victims of the tsunami that devastated Southeast Asia in December of 2004.

A short list of the places Jon Waterman has played includes The Nameless Coffeehouse, Club Passim, and the Plough and Stars in Cambridge, MA, The Press Room in Portsmouth, NH, Jammin' Java in Vienna, VA, Caffeine and Hobo Joe's in Nashville, TN, Fiddler's Dream in Phoenix, AZ, Radio Bean in Burlington, VT, and Java Joes Coffee House in Milton, MA. His festival appearances include the Haunted Happenings Festival of Salem, MA, and the 2001 Jacobs Ladder Folk Festival. As he prepares for a second studio release, Waterman continues to gather inspiration, influences and stories from across the country. He may not be getting rich as a performer, but as he says, "At least I'm making people happy - not building bombs or handing out parking tickets.".
