Jerree Small grew up in the Midwest listening to a combination of Cyndi Lauper, Madona and her parent's Bob Dylan and Cat Stevens records. She picked up the guitar while studying creative writing at the Minnesota Arts High School in Minneapolis and started marrying her words to go with the music. Enjoying a four year stint in the Northeast, Small couldn't resist the pull of her roots, basing herself back in Duluth Minnesota in December 2003. "The stark cold is good for contemplation." Small jokes.
With her easy laugh and openness with the audience, Jerree Small has a stage presence that feel immediately familiar and endearing. Her writing strikes a similar balance. :"The songs seem as though they've been unearthed rather than written. Like old songs that you just hadn't heard before," a musician friend once told her. Small "communicates in wonderful shades of gray" writes Darren Tobalt of the Minnesota Ripsaw News..
