She is the daughter of Jennifer Elbert and Dallas pianist Roland Elbert, and spent her childhood in Dallas and the Dallas suburb of Coppell, Texas. The music played in her family quickly instilled a fascination with the musical world. Emily went to sleep as a child listening to the music of Antonio Carlos Jobim among other classic artists, which she says had a significant impact on her musical development.

A third-generation pianist, Elbert began studying the instrument at an early age. She began playing guitar at the age of 14, and singing at the same time. She then attended the Berklee College of Music 5-Week Performance Program, vocal jazz workshops at the University of North Texas, while singing in choirs at Coppell High School. During high school, Elbert was selected as one of four female vocalists in the 2007 Gibson-Baldwin Grammy Jazz Ensemble which performed at the Grammy events in Los Angeles. She was named Grand Prize Winner in the 2007 Texas Music Project’s "Texas 10 Under 20" Contest, a winner of a four-year scholarship to Berklee College of Music, winner of Berklee's Performing Songwriter Contest, and winner of the Youth Talent Competition in the 2007 Old Settlers Music Festival. She was a finalist in the Dallas Songwriters Association Awards, a Runner-Up for Relix Magazine’s 2006 JAM OFF!, and the musical guest on an episode of “Good Morning Texas.”[2] She will attend Berklee in Boston, Massachusetts on a full-tuition scholarship in the 2007-2008 school year. • She sounds like a female Brett Dennen. Of course, I thought Brett was a female the first time I heard him, so maybe Brett Dennen sounds like Emily Elbert. Me loves the scat singing too! -- Sol® 20:15, June 20, 2007 (AKDT)

  • Simply Amazing! I know she hates comments regarding how young she looks, but she'll get over that in another 10-20 years or so.
  • An absolutely solid talent. Rat Apache Junction, AZ 85220

  • Besides being one of those special 'finds' musically, Emily can take credit for getting Esther turned on to mySpace. Esther in turn got Jim turned on to it for the musical networking among indie musicians we play. Thanks Emily. Now I'm checking every 2 minutes to see if we have any new friends ... and we'll never have as many as you have. ;-) Jim 10:15, July 31, 2007 (AKDT)
