Bob Beach has been singing and playing harmonica and flute professionally for more than 30 years. Living in Philadelphia, Bob can currently be heard with the duo Fitzgerald & Beach, The Christine Havrilla Band, The Paul Lewis Band, Beach & Bohne, The 1st Light Team, The Philadelphia Jug Band and many local, regional and national performers.
Born and raised in the Philadelphia area, Bob relocated to western Pennsylvania after high school. From 1976 to 1997, Bob worked in bands and other musical projects based in the city of Pittsburgh. While there, Bob was a mainstay of the club scene and also very involved in recording. Bob has the versatility to work within a number of different musical genres, having been involved in commercials, film, session work and his own band recording projects. In 1997, Bob came back to Philadelphia and has continued performing and recording.
He has supported a number of local musicians, including Bob Bohne, Colleen McFarland, Jive Five Minus Two, Steve Quelet and many others in both live and studio situations. Onstage performances in the last few years have included jamming with Ollabelle, the Campbell Brothers, the Avett Brothers, Christine Havrilla, the Waybacks, Ian Thomas, Pat Wictor, Swamp Cabbage, Chris Bell, Dave's True Story, Paul Lewis, Fruit, Josh Komorowski, Gretchen Witt, John Francis and many, many more. Bob is active in the Fortissimo Folk Music group and the Lansdowne Folk Club. Bob produced and performed on the Philadelphia Jug Band's debut CD.
Bob continues to record and perform with longtime musical partner D.C. Fitzgerald. Fitzgerald & Beach have recorded 4 CDs and perform regularly. The most recent is Joyful Noise, a collection of spiritual and gospel songs. Their newest project Pilot Me was released in early 2006 on the BoneDog Records label.
Bob has played NERFA Conference, the Philadelphia Folk Festival twice, DelMarva Folk Fest and the Northeast Folk Alliance Conference a number of times, Spring Gulch Folk Festival, Forksville Folk Festival, Hickory Fest, the Kalamazoo Blues Festival, and many local and regional venues and radio programs. Bob also brings his unique talents to worship services at First Presbyterian Church in Lansdowne, PA. Bob also belongs to the Philadelphia Folk Song Society and AFM Local 100. Bob often can be found mixing sound (and sometimes playing) at the World Cafe Live Upstairs venue..
