Alterstate started out as a 4-piece rock band in Johannesburg, South Africa in 1998. After playing more than 550 shows in four years, and having enjoyed ongoing local and national radio airplay, the band got some recognition from an unlikely source - The American Federation of Musicians recognized the band as:
"Of international quality as performers in the pop/rock field". This motivated Alterstate to bring their music to the U.S.
Soon after arriving in U.S. the band added a fifth member to the line-up, and have since worked tirelessly to quickly establish Alterstate as one of Atlanta's fastest rising bands.
Alterstate's track on Band Together for Peace is titled Open Your Eyes (Don't Cry). They are one of South Africa's proudest exports. Having been in the U.S. since 2002. the band has built up a loyal following with its dynamic stage performance and has played over 150 shows in and around Atlanta, adding up to an impressive total of more than 700 shows since their inception in 1998. The band's first single, Everything's Alright, reached number 1 in Montana, number 5 in Washington and has been play-listed all across the U.S..
