The first thing you'll notice about Alice Di Micele is her voice. With a five-octave range that is intense, sensual, rich and soulful, Di Micele has turned a noisy bar silent within a few notes. Her warm presence and humor disarm and create a rare intimacy between audience and performer. Whether singing a jazzy-folk number, belting a sassy blues, or rocking out on one of her trademark rhythmic earthy grooves, Alice is a vocalist that moves people. A kick-ass guitarist as well, whether playing solo or with a band her acoustic guitar conjures percussive poly-rhythms, bass lines, and melodies that perfectly frame her vocals.

Alice grew up in New Jersey and attended State University of New York to study music therapy. She played with a rock fusion band called Eon Ocean, did street performance outside Grateful Dead shows and started gigging at coffee houses. She move to Ashland Oregon in 1986 and formed a band called Earth Song. She formed her own label , Alice Otter Music, to make the 1988 album Make A Change, a grass roots folk style album that established Alice as a staunch defender of the environment.

She has seven solo albums behind her, and several compilations to her credit. She has opened for Bonnie Raitt, Joan Baez, David Grisham and Steve Winwood to name a few.

First, I'll admit I'm biased. I LOVE Alice! She's a great performer and a friend. I first saw Alice at the Oregon Country Fair, probably around 1988 singing in Community Village. There was a soothing tribal singalong to Alice's 'Make a Change' album that I can only describe as a peaceful deep tissue massage. Later that year Alice came up to perform on the island with Dana Lyons, we met and have been good friends ever since. Alice has a voice that defies gravity. She can really belt it out, and then she can turn it down and soothe your soul. She hits notes that bounce off the stratosphere. Alice is also fiesty, funny as heck and has a great big heart. I am so happy to bring Alice to WWR. Onthebus 08:25, May 19, 2006 (AKDT)
