Al Stewart (born September 5, 1945) is a British singer-songwriter and musician. He is best known for his 1976 single "Year of the Cat" and its 1978 follow-up "Time Passages" (both produced by Alan Parsons). Many of Stewart's songs are inspired by history; indeed, he is credited with creating his own genre, "historical folk rock." Stewart was born in Glasgow, Scotland but grew up in the coastal resort town of Bournemouth, Dorset, England.
He emigrated to the United States as his career took off in the mid 1970s, and still lives in California. While studio albums are now few and far between, he still tours extensively in the United States, and, most years in Europe. Recordings of concerts are often made available through his fan clubs..

I've been a huge fan of Al Stewart for as long as I can remember. In fact, he's one of the few artists that I knew about long before I found Whole Wheat Radio, he's a Schade family favourite! His voice, lyrics and music style are all unique and a real pleasure to listen to, and it's thrilling for me to see his music available for all us wheatheads to request and enjoy! GO AL! Like Ruben, I was an Al Stewart fan before I discovered WWR, and seeing Al live recently renewed my interest in his music. Until recently, I didn't know that he and I share the same birth date but I do not yet know how close we are during the day. DrTom 6 Jan 2009
